Welcome to SB,

I would recommend filling in a bit more information on your profile so more people can help you out. There may even be a regional section for your area with instructors and future buddies active on SB.

If you are looking for a place to get certified you could look for a PADI shop at this site. As a PADI instructor I am a bit biased. They do offer an Open Water Scuba Diver certification in which you can start online by completing the theory. Some like this option. You still meet with an instructor who will verify your knowledge and then help you learn and develop skills in the pool before you begin training in the open water. A more traditional paper manual approach option is also available. Hope this is helpful.

Lpollard, "I don't think we're in Kansas anymore" from the Wizard of Oz. Our apologies if an answer might be too close to our own homes. But if you could put more information into your profile it will help us all. I'm taking a WILD guess you're in England (?) If I'm wrong, just change the search for ?

At the top of each page is a button "Forums" click there and hang on for a wild ride. . . There are hundreds of topics and divers bragging about their certification classes. Before you go there keep going down the list past everything you can do in diving, past endless equipment lists, and "my gear is better than your gear". . . keep going down. Way down this list is "Regional Travel and dive clubs." Click here for divers near your home. There are divers all over the world, and if you're in Australia, the water will be warmer, than if you are in England. You'll want to talk to people diving close to your home, for help in which certification agency, which dive shop, which instructor. I have good friends that are exceptional instructors. . . but not good enough to travel from the other ends of the globe for.

Find your country, your state (?), and possibly your city. . . if there are no active messages today, use the search function, and you can find messages from the past. You may find a neighbor that can help you get started.

If there isn't a dive shop next door to you, there are other ways to get started. Take a course close to home. . . the text book portion of the certification, confined (pool) can be in warm water even if you are in England. . . then the open water can be taken at tropical locations with the paperwork referral your original instructor can give you before you leave. Keep looking under Regional Travel, and check out Egypt's red sea, and Thailand, and Mexico, and Oklahoma's swamps. . . Ok forget that last one.

If your thinking warm water for open water check out dives send me a PM :) I can recommend a good instructor... In all seriousness, you may find something closer to home more convenient. Best of luck and hope you find SB useful as you continue your adventure.
