My boss is going to give me a heart attack, my trip is back on, good lord.

I keep reading to bring "lots" of money, ones, fives, tens, go easy on the twenties and nothing larger. Question is what is "lots"? Is $500 in cash enough? I'm staying at Fantasy Island which is all inclusive including alcohol (new special) so how much do I need. I'll probably want to bring the wife something home and a couple of t-shirts. Any other thoughts? What is appropriate tipping?

Please do a trip report when you return. My husband and I will be making our first trip to Roatan/FIBR in June, so I'd love to hear how you liked it.

Weigh you bags to make sure that they are each under 50 lbs or you will get surcharged. Check airlines to see how many check in bags you are allowed or you will pay for that extra bag. In general one check-in bag and one carry-on (not including a woman's purse) is allowed.

Have a great time!!!!

any word on Islena/Taca baggage restrictions? I have tried to get a straight answer from them over the past few weeks to no avail (Taca has giving me some very polite non responsive responses, Islena has just flat out not answered). The Islena website references a 1 checked bag limit for the flights using Cessna Grand Caravans; however it looks like we will be on the larger Bigs/ATR planes (SAP - LCE - RTB).

Any information would be most appreciated.

I flew out of Roatan this afternoon. Some of the security people at the airport are misapplying 3-1-1 and confiscating all liquid cosmetic items and solid deodorant sticks as well. My advice is to pack all this stuff in checked luggage when you leave. They also tried to charge me $28 for a second checked bag even though I am exempt as a Continental Silver Elite customer.

I spent about $100 or so in tips last year (maybe over-tipped, not sure) so plan on some cash for tips. If you are planninng any side trips - zip lines, etc,( the one I did last year (Pirate's Extreme) I think took credit cards) - some may, some may not take credit cards, so plan on some cash for excursions depending on how many you may want to do. Also plan on tips for the excursion folks and/or drivers.
Souvenirs costs would depend on what you expect to purchase.

The baggage guys at the airport will expect a couple bucks for tips - 2 or 3 bucks should be fine on both arrival and departure.

I took about $300 cash last year and had money left over but I didnt purchase any souvenirs on that trip. Not sure if this helps.

Hi Martha,

When are you going?, We will be going there for our first trip from the 4th thru the 11th.

Dan

As far a bug spray goes, we found some bug spray called Cactus Juice on the island that worked just as well as anything else and did not have the typical greasy feel of most bug sprays.

Oh by the way I'll be at FIBR March 28 through April 6 if anyone needs a dive buddy. My friend who was going with me can't go, seems there would be a divorce soon following his return.

Security is another question, where do you put your valuables when you're diving or wandering around? I'd sure hate to find myself without any cash or credit cards.

Leadweight said something about ATM's, are there enough throughout the island to not travel with a large amount of cash? I leave Sat and can't wait!
