I'm a Fish!
A few post back I read about and went on Youtube to see the final dive of Dave Shaw.
While their I found a vid about the death and recovery of a diver in Blue Hole Dahab very sad and a little scary, as I found three different videos on the diver's who found him and two others about the death and recovery.
If you stop the vid of the diver either narking out or lost some how you'll see on his computer that he reaches 162 ft when or about the time he passes out and well you know...

The two tec divers who found the poor man many years later at 362 ft.

My question is this did he not have a buddy or a group that he had been with, and what went wrong for this guy?

If anyone has something to add please chim in. I'm very interested to find out!

It sounds like you're referring to Yuri Lipski? If so, this video provides a little more insight: YouTube - Fatal Diving Accident Caught on Tape

Near the beginning of the video it is mentioned that he didn't descend with his buddy (although he was near his buddy just before he started the big descent), and that he wasn't properly weighted for the dive (he was too heavy). I guess he descended entirely way too fast and most likely panicked as a result, instead of taking corrective action such as dropping weight, and inflating his BCD if necessary, etc.

There are LOTS of dead divers in the blue hole. Far far too many.

Usually the result of them going too deep with inadequate kit and/or gas choice.

FWIW, I watched that video again recently as well and the impression I got was that his BCD failed somehow and wouldn't hold air. My guess is that he was overweighted without enough ditchable weight to correct for that situation. I didn't see anything resembling panic until he was already at the bottom (and was likely narc'ed out of his gourd).

If you listen, there's one long pause in his breathing, such as might occur if he had a seizure.

Then, there is some flailing around, apparently purposeless, also consistent with convulsions.

Finally there's the sound of free flowing air, possibly when his jaws unclenched and released the mouthpiece post-seizure.

All conjecture, of course.

Is there any info on his motivations or intentions for this dive?
