Pacific Whale Foundation is having their annual Whale Day Celebration here in Kihei, Maui in just under a month. The date is Saturday, Feb. 21st and everything kicks off at 9:00 am with the Parade of Whales.
I participate every year (since 2002) and am looking forward to this year with great eagerness. Each year our float: "Shaka Divers and the Double Bubble Mermaids" gets bigger and better. Last year we added a trailer and I was able to haul 16 beautiful mermaids to wave and throw smiles, sweet treats and aloha to all the onlookers.
This year I'm setting my sights much higher and I'm attempting to enlist 100 mermaids to be part of our group. If you're not the mermaid type, there's room for you to also come and walk alongside, ride your bike, rollerblades, unicycle or whatever you like. Please spread the word about this really fun event. We'll be in the parade (which ends around 9:30) and then hang out all day for food, fun, music, arts and crafts and just good times.
Whale Day is attended by well over 5,000 people each year and it's the biggest community event of the year in Kihei. If you know anyone that would like to be part of the fun with us, please have them contact me.
The best way to reach me is via email: shakadoug@helloworld.com. I will reply with streaming video email and will be able to explain what we're doing and answer any questions.
Whale Day is great family fun! I hope to see you there!
It's raining here on Maui today and I'm stuck in my office with a little extra time on my hands so I'm posting a few pics from over the years so you can check it out for yourself. Enjoy!
