Just DO IT. You will not regret it. Been there many times. FI is a great place. Easy diving. And your Instructor is going. What more cloud you ask for?

Wif and I enjoyed Roatan very much. Diving was good despite the rains and slightly silty water (we went January 08). We stayed at Anthony Key and enjoyed the accomodations and food. You gotta go and do the tree zipline trip!!!! You start at the mountain top and zip line to the ocean along half a dozen or so very long zip lines. It was AWESOME!

Great diving. Just don't go out alone after dark, especially along the beach, and take plenty of DEET.

What? About the alone after dark bit, I mean. I lived in the west end last summer and was out alone after dark many times. Maybe on the south side things are a little rougher.

Roatan is an ideal place for a new diver; you'll have a great time. Watch out, it gets addictive. Tell your buddy to save his gear money until after he's had some experience. He'll make much better choices then.

I dont know if he is still there but there was this blonde haired south african guy who did shark dives, he was great and the shark dive was one of the coolest ive done. He sets it up so that you do an actual dive while the sharks follow along, at the end you stop and he does the feeding. Every where else you just sit a watch. If he still runs that trip def. do it, it is awsome, I second the zip lines to, they were fun. We stayed at Anthonys Key Resort

Roatan is great; you'll love it. I stayed at Coco View, beside FI. Neat walls, the boat dives are great in that area, and you'll have a fantastic time.

Don't know about the alone after dark thing. I had no trouble. Alone in town after dark is not advisable in any third world country, period, and Honduras would be no different. But I've been in proably at least 15 third world countries, some several times, and never had a problem. Just use common sense.

I wish it were me going!

I like Fantasy Island and have been there 3 times - great trips each.. they are running a free nitrox special April4 -May 30 for $749 (8 days 7 nights, 3 dives day, unlimited shore dives, meals, transfers etc. Great beach, great shore dive, good operation, food is fair (stick with seafood and local fare), rooms offer great views - accommodations are OK at best (basic bed, tile floors, smal fridge, tile bath)- but what a value!v

OK what is the deal on the beach after dark. I enjoy sitting in the beach chairs near the gazebo and watching the stars at nights. I get the Deet thing, though this is seasonal. they have armed guards at the resort entrance. What is your concern/experience about the beach at night? I've never heard of a problem.

We I guess the jury has voted, Roatan it is then. I try to post some pictures when we get back. Thank you all for your input.

I would def recomend roatan, I went on a cruise in nov that stoped in grand cayman, roatan, coz, and belieze. Unfortunitly I only dove in belize. I snorkled in all the other locations because my g/f doesnt dive, but even the snorkling in roatan was amazing. You will have a great time and I plan on going back so I can do a full week of diving there. Have fun.
