Well, darn it! Here I thought I had a pretty good setup with my new gear only to find that things like folding and roll up snorkels exist, lol! Now I need to start researching them for different gear questions. This sport is already expensive as it is, but you guys/gals are killing me with the plethura of gear options! :)

Might be worth a closer look at yours if you would like it to be in a pocket.
I too didn't want to buy another one and discovered mine actually does fold up and is remarkably like a couple of the "fold up" just not marketed as such.
I can fold it and hold it so with say a peice of inner tub but it takes too much room that way and I'm afraid it will get pulled out reaching for something else. It just gets wedged in along the side and bottom so there is room for something else.

You know, that's a good point. I've got one of Edge dry snorkels which has quite a good length of bendable tubing at the bottom, so there's really no reason I can't just fold in in half and tuck it away under my BC chest strap or somewhere else handy. After all, it's just a snorkel and even if the tubing starts to stay kind of crunched after a while, who cares- it will still work. :D

OK, so it isn't every single breathe. But I have no reason to lie and it's pretty outrageous to suggest that I would. Why would I care what you believe? We disagree, we always will. That does not translate to my being a liar.

OK then you aren't lying. Its just extremely bad technique, weighting and/or kit configuration then.

There's not a diver in the world that hasn't swallowed sea water at least once - unless they dive bathtubs or fresh water.

I can think of many that haven't. I also cant see how stuffing a tube in your mouth will completely eliminate all methods of taking on sea water.

I know the snorkel isn't infinitely long. I also know is has a drain and I learned long ago how to purge it.

You also seem unaware that they cant extract oxygen from sea water - if wave height is higher than tube height its going to fill with water which you cant breathe.

Tell you what! You dive your way and I'll dive mine. We won't bother to try to agree. You may continue to consider me a liar. I'll not post my opinions of you.

Richard

Ive changed my mind - its just bad skills and/or kit if not lying.

Well this thread is a money saving one - you get to save $10 by not buying a snorkel as you don't need one.

I have my own ideas of where people can keep their snorkels when diving but if I were to spell it out, I'd most likely not get one of those "thank you for that useful post" replies.

Great thread. I too dislike the attachement to the side of my head, but I unlike many of the other people commenting use my snorkle all the time. I don't like the velcro keeps but I am intrigued with the idea of a magnetic keep; hmmm, I see another DIY project in my future.

The last time I saw my snorkel it was attached to my mask...and in a sealions mouth:confused:Good thing I had a spare mask.:D

I am surfer and am use to timing sets of waves, its a natural reaction to hold my breath as the wave breaks over me. I know not everyone has that reaction. Also I surface swim on my back...another HP120 packer.

If I had to carry a snorkel it would be beside my tank bungied to my BC or BP were it is easily accessible but out of the way. I have had a few current dives where a snorkel would have pulled my mask off.

Good luck with your "sealion candy cane" adventures,

U/O

I keep my snorkel where it belongs -- in a box in my basement.
