2008 has been good to me. I had a really steep learning curve with UW photography and a milestone for my short diving history this year (I started diving in Feb 2007). May 2008 was the first time I used a DSLR rig underwater (on my 60th dive) and I have managed about 3 dive trips since (passing my 100th dive in November).

Here are 2 of my favorite wide angle shots and 2 of my favorite macro shots. I simply can't pick just one.....

OMG, Kay, you started diving a year ago and picked up a camera underwater THIS YEAR? Those pictures are AMAZING, and I can't even decide whether I like the WA or the macro ones better! The pygmy seahorse shot is one of the best of that subject I've ever seen.

The sea lion pup photograph is absolutely charming, too.

What a great thread, and thank you so much to the photographs who take the time to share their pictures with the rest of us!

Fabulous colors on the weedy, Frank. I went to Oz last year but flooded my camera on the first dive in GBR. I went to Sydney afterward so of course I have no photos of weedies. Plus my dear friends Theo and Lorraine (Almity1 & wife) told me when I was there it was one of the worst for viz. I think we only saw 2 weedies and Theo took photos and even got me in one of them.:D But I was so happy just to see them. I must go back and try to get viz like you did.

Thanks Ellen. Yep, we lucked out on the viz. We were told it was pretty poor for several days before we got there and not to hold our hopes high. We were the only ones diving that site (steps) that day and I was very pleased that we got to see several weedies, port jackson sharks, cuttlefish and some gorgeous nudibranchs on each of the 2 dives we did there. I highly recommend Sydney diving as well as Byron Bay diving. And you can't beat the friendliness of the Australians we met, although we didn't get to meet the almity ones :-)
I am impressed with all of the pictures in this thread. For those of us that spend time looking through a lens when we dive, it's another way to extend the joy of diving.
Shame about flooding your camera. I guess it was an excuse to get a new one :-)

Thanks for the kind compliments. Actually, I started using a camera last year with the DX-1G. It was after dive number 35 or so. I figured out pretty quickly that I wanted more and went all out with a DSLR rig instead. It was a good thing that I was already using a DSLR topside for a couple of years as a serious enthusiast.

I do hope that 2009 brings even more diving excitement and joy as it has so far this year. Dive safe everyone and have an very happy new years! ;)

Eskasi, that turtle picture is just beyond words! Absolutely stunning.

To everyone else, sorry for posting and not adding pictures, I know we all want to see more but I would be ashamed to put my measly shots with this bunch haha!

Wow! What a bunch of great pictures. I didn't shoot any underwater in '08, but have a lot of above water dive trip pics!
