The DIR info I have seen specifies aluminum tanks for OW diving with wetsuits and LP steel tanks for cave diving in drysuits. I have used primarily HP single steel tanks with thick wetsuits and drysuits in ocean diving temps from 60-70F.

What is the DIR - preferred tank material for a single or double tank config for drysuit diving in 50F degree open ocean water on the Pacific coast?

If you are diving a drysuit in cold water, steel tanks are not only acceptable, but preferred.

Steel. Size depends on needs, many use double 100s because they are a good compromise between gas amount and weight, some use double 130s. Single tanks, 130s seem to be getting real popular. 95s are real nice too.
