I just got a new Gates housing for a new (to me) Sony HC 7 high def camcorder. I took it diving in the St Lawrence for the first time, and am pleased with the results, but have a question. Has anyone experienced a halo when shooting into the sun???

Not with the same model as yours but, yes I have gotten halos and sometimes even the reflection of the camera with my Gates. I talked to them about it. Not much they could do about it.
 
Are you getting a halo or the reflection of your camera against the port? Especially shooting into the sun, you will get this reflection in your footage. The cheap and easy fix is use a permanent marker on the silvery part of your camera causing the reflection.
 
I get a halo when I use a wide angle lens. Mainly when looking into light. Without the wide angle it never shows up. pooltime You can see the halo on occassion on this video. Minimal but still noticeable. Keep us updated to what you find out. Thanks
