Greetings from the PacNorWest. Figured if I was going to learn to dive, why not do it where the waters cold, the vis is decent, and there's tons of water in extremely close proximity. Well, that and the Navy said I had to be here for at least 4 years. Well, that's all for now. Safe Diving everyone!

welcome aboard

Well, have you done your class yet? If so, where? If not, do you want any recommendations?

There are a lot of PNW divers here on SB; you can gather a wealth of information about shops and instructors, dive sites, dive clubs, dive events, and dive buddies. Have fun with it!

TSandM,
Yeah, did my OW course in December thru my LDS. Very nice lady that taught it, and was extremely helpful for us 4 guys in the class (1 previously certified, 3 newbs). Got my Nitrox class completed in July. Going slow, getting my practice in, checking out new places. Now I just got to convince my normal dive buddy that diving 32% is not going to make me burst into flames on the beach if the sun is out. (He's really not quite that paranoid about Nitrox, but almost.)

I don't know what end of the Sound you're in, but if it's the north end, Northwest Sports Divers has a very good deal on Nitrox that saves active divers (like me) a lot of money.

Hi there from the East Side of Washington!
There is some diving over here on the dry side as well.
I sort of like the idea of bursting into flames when the sun is out - not as much chance of that on the wet side as here, but I'll happily give it a chance!
There are a nice bunch of folks on this board - keep tuned in!
Chris

A quick search of NSD shows that they would be across the sound from me, since I'm over here in Silverdale/Bremerton area. LDS manager is used to my ugly mug showing up there asking boat loads of questions and looking through things asking more questions.

BTW, was looking at a DiveRite TransPac for a possible new BCD. Would probably run it with the 32 pound weight pockets attached to the belt vice a weight belt. Looking to see if there is possibly a shop around that sells them and if any around will let you dive it first, hopefully in that config (rental would be fine) to check it out. Any ideas? Willing to come to that side of the water on a weekend to check it out, even if it's just pool time with it.

Underwater Sports is a Dive Rite dealer. I haven't seen a TransPac in their stores, but I haven't been in all of them or very often. You could call them and see if they stock it anywhere.
