i remember one christmas about 12yrs ago, i went to tassie to visit friends for a week.

2 days after christmas and it was snowing! so cold i would sit in front of the fireplace while i rang home and sydney was having summer bushfires

my suggestion is when you get there hit kathmandu/paddy pallin for a couple of good items of polartek - unless you have a rei or northface where you are

but im sure you will climatise soon enough

dont worry soudan its not as bad as it sounds  just remember you want to be in the water anyway and that can be the warmest place on some days :rofl3:

as for snow at chistmas we had a prefect day 2 years ago when we spent the morning in the warm sun at the waters edge then the arvo up the mountain playing in the snow. :D

anyway when are you heading down soudan? the diving is great at the moment with great vis

Soudan - you are way lucky!

Tassie has AWESOME diving... it is some of my fav diving in Oz. The place is more colorful then the GBR, great fish life, awesome vis, drops offs and some nice wrecks, it's all there. I have done all my diving in Bicheno and around Eagle Hawk Neck, which are on the East and South/East coast... but it's not too far to drive. But I'm sure there are some great dive sites closer to Launceston too.

I took some pics last time I was there, feel free to check out the photo gallery to wet your appetite: scubawithag.com

I hope you love it over there!

wow, so it snows in summer!!
well, i don't think they have the appropriate winter cloths in Egypt, so I'll just have to buy some once i am in Tasmania!
Thanks for the advice Almighty

lol.. well first I'll have to buy me a slightly thicker wetsuit (thicker than my 3mm full suit)

I'll probably be heading that way close to the 1st semester (December, January or maybe even as late as February!!)

WOW I love your pictures, and now i just cant wait to dive out there.

are those shore dives or did you have to take a boat out to them??

Tassie has, in my completely unbiased opinion, some of the best diving in Australia.

One great thing is that there are plenty of good shore dives around (try doing that in queensland..). Most dive shops stock a book called 'Dive Tasmania' that you should grab: it lists hundreds of dives right around the island, including good shore dives for each region.

Be sure to join a dive club when you arrive - there’s plenty of divers down there who will happily show you around.

Head to the east coast for a week or so if you have time - there are good dive centres at Bingalong Bay (the bay of fires dive centre has one of the best views of any dive centre I've been to), Bicheno (excellent but deep sponge garderns), Swansea (a new wreak), Eaglehawk (huge sea caves, amazing sea cliffs, some kelp and plenty of seadragons as well as a good deep wreak), while hobart has some good shore dives. The northern dive clubs often have trips to some of these sites.

I used a 7 mm semidry for years and was fine- but drysuits keep you a lot warmer between dives: especially when its snowing/hailing and a lot warmer in the water than out of it.

Cheers,
Rohan
