Black Diamond is a great BC, I really like it, but I like a BP/W better.

I just notices that the horse collars have no place to mount a tank (how observant of me!)... do you still use a backplate with them?

Such a curious creature... I sort of wish I could have started diving back in the day...

We used to use a "back pack" that was sort of a plastic back plate.

Yes, a blow molded plastic "pack" typically with a single stainless steel strap with a handle that tightens or loosens the band. The associated harness was very similar to a current hogarthian harness, although a crotch strap was uncommon. Keep in mind that horse collar was an add on item, not a primary part of the "scuba system"

Ya but then you'd be old like me;)

Why would you want to use both? Seems dumb to me.:rofl3:

Just because I'd love to look like the Michelin man...:)

Warm water rec diver here.... Love my scubapro classic plus. No problems with trim in the weight intergrated BC.

I read the whole thread, I'm looking into getting my first bcd any day now, I have established from the thread that a jacket style would maybe be better for a new diver (just finished advanced). I assume back inflating ones are more expensive than jacket style ones? Another reason why a jacket may suit me better?

Some divers like Standard BC's, but I'm really not sure why?

I prefer back inflate. I have both a back inflate BC, and a BP/W.

I find it easier to maintain good horz trim in a back inflate BC, or wing. I think this holds true for many divers, and I know very few who own equipment that use a jacket style BC.

Some of the hybrids look interesting, but I've never dove one.

I know of no BC, jacket or otherwise that will keep an unconscience diver face up at the surface. That is what buddies are for?

The closest I've come to dying as a result of my BP/W was when my wife found out I had bought it. She had purchased a Black Diamond for me about a year prior.
I almost died laughing when I read this thread, does that count? :rofl3:
