There are quite a few here that try to hit up the quarry in Pelham pretty regularly, so keep an eye on the forums. There's also quite a few of us that hit the springs in the panhandle and dive the AL and FL gulfcoast quite a bit, if you're willing to drive a bit.

Hello All. I am new to ScubaBoard as well. I have been reading this post and it looks like most of you are a pretty tight group. I'm interested in getting some more info on vortoberfest. I live in Navarre, FL and have dove Morrison but not Vortex, but more than anything I'd like to meet some new dive buddies.

Anything in particular you want to know about Vortoberfest?

Typically... Starts on Friday to get a couple dives in and everyone invades the local eatery(Sally's) for some excellent country cookin grub. Likely a bit of drinking going on Friday night and everyone gets to sleep somewhat early. Saturday comes and typically everyone dives somewhere in the area, alot of times, mixing in several sites over the area - Vortex and Morrison have historically been the favorite paired dive sites due to their close proximity. Saturday afternoon comes around with a huge potluck cookout, usually brauts/sausages/ect and german beers are in favor due to the "Octoberfest" themes, but there will be several other meats and veggies to accomodate everyone's tastes. More drinks will be served. There's usually a night dive at Vortex, for those that can hold off on the drinks. There's usually a couple radio's(and maybe a TV) to keep everyone up on the many SEC football games going on. Sunday rolls around and usually there is a trip to Cypress, but other people dive Vortex and Morrison as well.

Nothing is manditory, you can show up anytime you want, you don't have to drink, you can dive where you want Its a very flexible get-together. The only thing I can promise you is the fellowship that comes along with some of the highest quality dive personalities you'll ever find!

Dang Mat, great job on the Vortoberfest description. Everything he said is true and looks like this year we will be adding karoke. Mat I think a few of us are doing a JB, Morrison, Cypress weekend over the July 4th weekend so if your up for joining us give me a call.

Dude... I hate to say this, but I have another friggin wedding on July 5th to goto... OMG, too many friggin weddings this year. I've bought like 8 blenders this year already!
