All of these sins are playing a major role in the moral decay of society.

How? Be specific.

I don't want my child to be subjected to unnatural sexual practices but unfortunately she is and will be.

How is homosexuality (or prostitution, for that matter) "unnatural" (your word)? Many different types of animals partake in both types of behavior, which implies to me that it is entirely natural.

What will the next immoral breakthrough in our modern enlightened society be? Due to immoral breakdown our society is moving from bad to worst. What we need is a strong Spiritual guidance to get our morals and values back in line.

What we need is reason and logic to be our moral guide, not 2000 year old novels.

I cannot support homosexuality, nor can I support prostitution, abortion, pornographics, etc, etc, etc. All of these sins are playing a major role in the moral decay of society.

What will the next immoral breakthrough in our modern enlightened society be? Due to immoral breakdown our society is moving from bad to worst. What we need is a strong Spiritual guidance to get our morals and values back in line.

Let me list your issues and then discuss them:

1) homosexuality
2) prostitution
3) abortion
4) pornography
5) sins

1) homosexuality

This activity has been around since ancient times, practiced widely in ancient Greece and Rome. It is nothing new. Normally about 10% of the population anywhere is like this (gay/lesbian/bi-sexual).

2) prostitution

In Europe, this activity is considered normal and legal. The nation-states regulate it, in order to ensure safety and disease control. Nations that outlaw this normally have higher rates of crime and higher disease.

3) abortion

I would never want to be the person to tell someone else what to do in the case of their own body. It seems simply wrong to make yourself a judge and jury over someone else. This issue is never mentioned anywhere in the Bible, therefore I do not see where you equate this with "sin." Love your enemies, because failing to do so IS a sin, in case you have forgotten.

4) pornography

This word is a combination of 2 greek words, one for "harlot" and the other for "images of." It is also not mentioned in the Bible anywhere, of course. The ancient Greeks and Romans made statues of nude figures to appreciate the artistry of nudity. Modern artists and photographers do the same thing. Why then do you call it a sin??

5) sins

The most obvious answer to this question involves "who has the right to impose religious-secular values on another?"

I will give you an example. Do you drink wine? If you do, then a Muslim constitution would forbid you, and the punishment would be imprisonment, which would take away all of your property and ruin your career. That would be a steep punishment for you, simply for tasting wine. How about wearing a veil across your face? Or holding hands in public? Same thing. Governments must be secular in order to ensure religious freedom.

Therefore you are essentially supporting your own theocracy, whatever that may be, and at the expense of everyone else's religious freedom. So you are violating the 1st Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Therefore you should probably move out of the nation you are in, and instead to another which supports your views, or to an island where you can play god yourself. N'est pas?

You really need to start thinking more, and become more tolerant of the other 6 billion people on the planet Earth with you, and judge your neighbors less, if you want to be "sinning" less than you seem to be now.

My 2 Euros, on this.

Theunis, I sincerely hope that's just a language typo.

But one thing I can tell you though, I will teach my child the difference between right and wrong, natural and unnatural behaviour, etc.

Who knew? There IS a solution for world peace!

1,500 animal species practice homosexuality

"Homosexuality is quite common in the animal kingdom, especially among herding animals. Many animals solve conflicts by practicing same gender sex.

From the middle of October until next summer the Norwegian Natural History Museum of the University of Oslo will host the first exhibition that focuses on homosexuality in the animal kingdom.

"One fundamental premise in social debates has been that homosexuality is unnatural. This premise is wrong. Homosexuality is both common and highly essential in the lives of a number of species," explains Petter Boeckman, who is the academic advisor for the "Against Nature's Order?" exhibition."

What do you mean here? Are you talking about things like foreplay? Or do you mean having sex with no intention to procreate? Just what is natural sex? Is it like monkeys at the zoo?

NO...especially this affirmative action nonsense.
MIke, I did not say anything a affirmative action.

Let me get this straight ...

Do you think that it is OK to fire someone because of their race?

Do you think it is OK to refuse to hire someone because of their gender?

Who said anything about physical fighting?

You didn't specify and being a short little Italian guy from Chicago, I know what fighting is.
This is more about 'fighting' in the political 'arena' then anything else, i.e. 'fight' for gay rights, 'fight' against teaching this creationist nonsense in schools etc etc.

Although I dont think you can actually reason with fundamentalist muslims or christians but at least (most) fundamentalist christians dont blow themselves up

Your own logic defeats your argument because of the wide brush you paint with. I'm a Christian but I think science should be taught in science class. You aren't necessarily fighting christians are you? Aren't you fighting to have science taught in science class? I had some pretty lousy science classes back when I was in school that didn't teach much of anything at all. I'm certain that there's still plenty of that going on. How concerned are you over that? They didn't mention creationism but there wasn't much science going on. Are you trying to get good science taught or will you be satisfied as long as it isn't creationism?

I think your debate will be more effective if you stick to the topic...which would be the validity and quality of the science being taught.

As far as I know gays have the exact same rights in this country as the rest of us.

As to reasoning, I don't think you've demonstrated the ability to reason with anybody who doesn't completely agree with you...and you don't need to reason with those who do agree. LOL maybe reasoning just isn't your thing?

That would seem to me it isn't a problem...

I would guess it would be if one was homosexual and lived in one of the 37 States where homosexuals can be discriminated against...

oh well, enjoy the dive show.

This has been, so far, a very popular thread-topic, with lots of amateur and/or expert debating going on.

I hope some people are getting something out of the debate process, and that others are become more tolerant of others. The world is too full of people not to be tolerant.

I myself am a very straight-laced person (even the DIR requirements are too lax for me!). However I do support other's rights to be different (which is why I do not participate in anything DIR !!!).

The key concept being "straight."

And the point to be taken is "not DIR."

I believe Jesus, if he were here today, would be "tolerant" and certainly not "DIR"!

Do you think it is OK to refuse to hire someone because of their gender?

Well, I don't think it's very nice or necessarily very smart business practice to base hire/fire decisions on race or gender. However, I don't think it should be regulated by the government either.

Even more relevant to you (Thal) and to me is age discrimination in hiring. I run into that all the time. Very sad, for us!

The overall issue always seems to come back to "fairness," and fairness by and large is a matter of tolerance everywhere.
