Do you think that the hire/fire protection afforded other groups (e.g. women and blacks) is OK?

NO...especially this affirmative action nonsense.

Fight fundamentalist muslims just as hard as we should fight fundamentalist christians.

For all the talk about the atrocities committed by the church, look who wants to fight. I don't want to fight anybody and I hope I don't have to.

Have you done much fighting? Are you any good at it? We have wars going on two different fronts in the middle east. Are you planning on joining in?

From your link on [11];
If you encounter discrimination after your tenancy has begun, the picture may improve dramatically.

Yes, and the page before that says:

Renter's Rights Against Sexual Orientation Discrimination - Real Estate Center
"If a Landlord Won't Rent To You

If you are denied a rental at the application stage, you may or may not be able to do anything about it. Federal law does not protect gays, lesbians, or transgender people from discrimination by landlords. Several states and many cities, however, do have laws that prohibit sexual orientation discrimination.

California, Connecticut, the District of Columbia, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Wisconsin have laws prohibiting discrimination against gays or lesbians. California, Connecticut, Minnesota, New Mexico, Rhode Island and New York City also protect transgender folks. In addition, many cities have passed laws that make discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation illegal, including Atlanta, Chicago, Detroit, Miami, New York, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, and Seattle.

If you don't live in a state or city that extends protection, there's not much you can do besides, perhaps, attempting to reason with the landlord. "

Which means to me that 37 states do not prohibit sexual orientation discrimination.....

Oh, and this was interesting, whatever one thinks of the ACLU:

American Civil Liberties Union : The Rights of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered People

"AREN'T LGBT PEOPLE DEMANDING SPECIAL RIGHTS AND PREFERENTIAL TREATMENT?

As the Supreme Court explained in Romer v. Evans, there is nothing "special" about laws which prevent people from losing jobs and homes because of who they are. Most of us take the right to participate in daily life on an equal footing for granted, the Court said, either because we already have the right under the law, or because we are not subjected to that kind of discrimination. Laws which prohibit discrimination simply give LGBT people that basic right to be equal participants in the communities in which they live.

Most Americans do not realize that many LGBT people who face discrimination - in areas from housing and employment to parenting - have no legal recourse since federal law does not prohibit discrimination against LGBT people."

My point is that there is absolutely nothing inherently bad or 'evil' about homosexuality as much as christians/muslims etc want to make it look like it is.

That's your take on it but you'll pardon those of us who think differently? But you won't, will you. You already said that you want to fight. Do you want to fight everybody who disagrees with you or just those who disagree about certain things.

Maybe standing behind what I say by using my name and sitting in front of the window isn't such a good idea.

I cannot support homosexuality, nor can I support prostitution, abortion, pornographics, etc, etc, etc. All of these sins are playing a major role in the moral decay of society.

I don't want my child to be subjected to unnatural sexual practices but unfortunately she is and will be. But one thing I can tell you though, I will teach my child the difference between right and wrong, natural and unnatural behaviour, etc.

What will the next immoral breakthrough in our modern enlightened society be? Due to immoral breakdown our society is moving from bad to worst. What we need is a strong Spiritual guidance to get our morals and values back in line.

Who said anything about physical fighting? This is more about 'fighting' in the political 'arena' then anything else, i.e. 'fight' for gay rights, 'fight' against teaching this creationist nonsense in schools etc etc. Although I dont think you can actually reason with fundamentalist muslims or christians but at least (most) fundamentalist christians dont blow themselves up.

My point is that there is absolutely nothing inherently bad or 'evil' about homosexuality as much as christians/muslims etc want to make it look like it is.

Throughout American history, the following cultural taboos have involved legal action over the past several centuries, since the discovery and founding of the Colonies:

1) Atheism

2) Homosexuality (male and female)

3) Polygamy (religious and secular)

The issue with these "abberations" from mainstream European society are as much or more "cultural" as "religious."

With the trend in modern times towards "liberalism," the first has been completely accepted by now (atheism), and the second is beginning to emerge (homosexuality). The third, however, if the recent Texas example is of any indication, has yet a long way to go, before it too becomes commonly acceptible in America.

Whereas 80% of people world-wide are religious, while 20% are actively practicing, I doubt that these religious folk will all necessarily be intolerant of these "abberations" from the norm, no matter what their respective religions teach.

Most people understand and accept the notion that governments must be secular and avoid religious bias, or else there would be no religious freedom either.

So I agree with you, that there is nothing inherently bad about these relatively unique, minority orientations. Although I would not put the blame upon religion simply for their persecution.

Oh yea, that is going to solve all our problems. Whos morals and values? Yours? It is soooooooooooo easy to blame, abortion, gays, prostitution etc for all the worlds problems. Ever consider religion being a contributor to the problems? I guess you havent huh. Are we fighting gays or prostitutes in Afghanistan or Iraq? NO, we are fighting religious fundamentalists. Religion is the problem.

Well, many landlords discriminate against people with children too. Funny though I was asked about children, sex, number and age in regard to every single rental property I ever applied for, never once did anyone ever ask about sexual orientation.

Here again, rental properties are businesses and the business owner should be able to risk his/her livelyhood as they see fit.

That would seem to me it isn't a problem...

Ok, back to the travel channel, they are running an episode on diving for scallops and lobster at Catalina Island.

Have fun people.
