Just got back from Utila last nite. We stayed at Deep Blue Resort. I must say it was very pleasant with Steve, Shirley and Jasmine being wonderful hosts. Jasmines cooking is excellant and they go out of there way to please. Nice and quiet operation as opposed to the operations in town. thats just my preference though. The Dive operation was very attentive and first rate....Boat was a bit slow but the personalities of the crew,
Captain albert, Chris, Matt, and ZAB certainly made up for the older boat. They were very professional but yet lots of fun and made the diving a real treat. We didnt see any Whale Sharks but did get to play with some spinner dolphins for a while.......We chartered Capt Vern and his catamaran for the trip over from Roatan. It was fun and took about 3.5 hours. I wanted to get on the water asap he was great. On the way back though we ran into some nasty weather and had to turn back...I appreciated Verns attention to safety. Hooray for Shirley who was able to arrange for a plane to Roatan even as many others were not even landing in Utila....We got out in time for our flight to the states........All in all a great trip....Good diving...Did a wall night dive that was fabulous....North side is better with great visibility and walls. Deep Blue went there every day for1st dive then tooled around for Whale Sharksduring your surface interval....I reccomend Deep Blue!!!!!

Thanks for the trip report. Sorry you didn't have better weather and that you didn't get to see any whale sharks! But playing with spinner dolphins sounds very cool!

We leave on Saturday for one week at Laguna Beach.

Great to hear the report on Deep Blue!! My wife & I will be diving with them May 5th thru the 12th your report is getting really looking forward to it.

I will be at Deep blue March 29th-April 5th have been e mailing Steve, seems like a great guy met him at DEMA. Will be at Anthonys Key Resort as well week before March 22nd thru March 29th
looking forward to it, thanks for your report

Swin had a death in the family & Albert, from Utila Lodge, was filling in while he was off. It's one of the things I like most about Utila. Even though we're 'competition', we're all still 'island family' when the chips are down.

I understand that his mother just died and he was taking a break...I don't know when he is coming back. We did see him in his fishin boat alone a couple of times that week. He looked like he was takin it in and it reminded me a little bit of Spencer Tracy in Old Man in the Sea. I was a bit envious. You probably could check with Steve@deepblueutila.com for more info.

You will like all the friendly staff at Deep Blue.....it is different than Anthonys Key. We have been to both resorts and liked them both. Deep Blue was obviously smaller and more laid back. Older boat but the DMs were great and gave lots of personal attention....Great meals...I think both resorts have great appeal in their own ways.
