Yup- I was thinking the same thing. On practically every deserted stretch of beach in the Caribbean there's an accumulation of discarded plastic bottles. They've all passed thru someone's hands before they ended up there. Since that realization, I've always packed my own refillable water bottle -- to use in the room and on the dive boat. It may not be much, but at least it's a small help ...and my kids are watching.

That is excellent!!!!! Just think what a difference it would make if only half the people who vacation in Cozumel every year did that! I also like to bring containers of powdered drink mixes like Propel, lemonade, iced teas, so we aren't buying those bottled items too. :)

I have put this down sooooo many times on suggestion cards (and emails you get after a stay) - Please provide a good sized (18-32 oz) reusable plastic mug and a decent quality reusable shopping/tote bag to each of your guests at check-in. They are very reasonably priced when ordered in large quantities, and imprinted with your name, logo, web site and phone number, they will also serve as advertising for you when your guests are out and about using them, and when they take them home.

For a total of about $3 pp, just think of how much less plastic will end up on the side of the road and in the ocean!

That's a great idea. Have you ever tried actually speaking with the General Manager of the hotel about the suggestion? I would wonder how many hotel managers actually read comment cards. Having experience in the hospitality industry, and having been a front office manager previously, most of the time they are given to the Front Office Manager who, unless there is a serious problem, just read and files them. Scheduling a brief 15 minute meeting (or impromptu stop-by and ask for him/her) might be a more effective way to get the message across.

Regardless, I am going to get writing that as well when I travel. Hadn't really crossed my mind.

At least it's a boost to the local economy in lead sales. :thumb:

Did you realize you were resurrecting a thread that was 9 months dead?

You know what else would be outstanding at every hotel in Coz? A scale ! I would love to have a dollar, well, maybe $10 for every person (including me) I see re-packing bags at the airport check in counter. We could weigh our bags at the hotel and re-pack if we need to.

Maybe they could place it by the burger stand?:D

I have spoken to the manager at a number of places I've stayed in various destinations about this... and contacted property owners, marketing managers, etc. Sadly, in most popular vacation destinations they feel guests are most interested in convenience over conservation. It would take alot of guests voicing the same concern/interest before they are willing to drop a few dimes on it. (I've been in travel & tourism marketing and communications - cruise industry, industry associations, agency groups, marketing consortia, tourism related non-profits, eco NGO's at popular tourist destinations, etc for about 20yrs now. I'm not shy about contacting the higher-ups and I know I can present things well. Still, no results on this one. Yet.)

:D Right by the front desk, an actual airline check-in counter scale. Fantastic ideal!

I've got a digital luggage scale; I found it on line for about 25 bucks. It paid for itself on my first Coz trip that I had it.
