Are you saying that since the product is readily available that the quality of the product is irrelevant?

It reminds me of that old joke...I have some good news and some bad news for you. The bad news is that all we have for dinner is horse chit. The good news is that there's plenty of it. LOL

You must have a very short attention span read my first few statements!... how can you say they are not good without any statistics? And you failed to mention who is better and how If you don't have answers to these ....then what in the world are you talking about?

Thanks again for your concern! But the only time I might look like some some sub-aquatic goth will be at my funeral, and that, by definition, will only happen over my dead body!

For now, if I may, I chose to take advantage of not being a member of the canine family, will enjoy the rainbow in all of its colors and set up my gear accordingly.

You're having a DIR funeral?

Hey, whatever makes you happy. It's a big pool and there's room enough for everybody's type of diving.

Well this is PADI bashing at its best...so screw it. really Boys you can beat this horse for what it is worth...bottom line..you gotta start somewhere.

A good read is the DIR Fundamentals...and Dress for Sucess by Dan Mackay.
Good reading and opens your eyes alittle. Written by two divers with there own perspectives and many years of dive experience.

Happy diving.

As we enter this joyous holiday season, I am pleased to see so many whose cups are overflowing with bile.

Somebody got their PADI training and went diving, loved it and wanted to say something nice about their training with PADI...why should that upset so many of you? Well, I think I know, but we'll pick at that scab some other day.

This may be true, but if this is the case, critiquing a single agency for the trend driven by descisions made by a panel representing many agencies is a narrow path. In fact, I know of agencies that are currently including significantly less than PADI includes in their open water courses.

I'm familiar with the standards of three and only three agencies. PADI's standards are by far the lowest of those three. I have some knowledge of some others. Some of them seem to be about on a par with PADI. There are many, many agencies. It wouldn't surprise me to learn others are even worse. Which agency has standards lower than PADI?

You can read their standards and compare it to what you know, from long experience, works and what doesn't work. Some practices produce good divers, other practices don't.

The vast majority make it back alive from that dangerous journey into the unknown.

I don't believe that is the criteria I'd use to determine which class I'd like to take.

I don't know if I can say lower or higher, but SDI's oopen water course contains less material, in that students are not taught the tables.

Let it go. There are three or four people on here who live this discussion. Some of them have 100s and even 1000s of posts on this same issue. When one has made over 10,000 posts on SB and at least half of them about the end of the world thanks to the agencies, he/she may be...well...you get my point .

I never argue with Caesars (as constant as the Northern Star), stones, walls, and religious fanatics. Same is true with some people here. Just let it go.

jd950, I totally agree with your comments, even added a thanks. This whole thread is so un-SB-like... too many insults and not enough information that means anything, especially about diving. I know, don't read it, right <grin>?
