Brother if you are mechanically inclined at all I suggest you get the owners manual for your motor and start working on it yourself. You will save thousands!!!! I have an inboard motor and the first time it broke down the boat place said it was going to cost about 2 grand. I fixed it for $300.00 in parts and some time. I don't think I could afford to own a boat if I couldn't work on it myself.

Sounds like a stator problem; get the manual and study it. Flywheel and bearings will not cause what you describe....

Ive worked in a boat yard before and have yet to find or hear about a bent main shaft. Can some one tell me how you bend something that is in a custom fit case?Especially considering that they are about an inch in diamater and solids steel.Bearnigs I can see them go bad but not cause the prob that was described. If either was the case the engine probably would freeze and when it did run would make horrendous noises.
I too would like to know what diverchik fix was.It sounds like another prb I can think of.
Speaking of:
jrmfg17 does your boat have internal or external fuel tanks? In either case check all of your fuel lines for cracks and also where they attach to the fittings and the fittings to the tanks. If you have a bad seal, you will get air into the fuel lines and the vacuum will disapear and the result is a rough running engine at speed, before finally dying, but will idle (cold) and run at slow speed just fine.It might even run on plane for a little bit.

I had an older 115 Mercury (wrap around metal engine shroud style) that had the exact same problems and it turned out to be the stator. It's worth checking out.

Thanks fellas. I've already got the manual and have been thinking of trying to fix it myself. I guess I will just take the plunge and see what happens. I figure it can't be anything me and a case of beer can't fix. ha ha.. Seriously, I appreciate the help and I will definitely take everyone's advice and post up the final conclusion. Thanks again.

Have You Done A Compression Check On The Engine . And Can They Prove To You The " Bent Parts " .Sounds To Me It Runs Perfect When The Engine Is Cold And When Warms Up It Looses Power ? To Me It Sounds Like A Compression Problem . Sounds To Me Like Rings Or A Bad Head Gasket . If You Had A So Called Bent Part You Would Feel Or Hear A Virbration .

Bro'

You, the manual and a case of beer means some seriously candid moments. Sounds like you have everything you need, except for tools Call me when you get completely pissed off so I can come over, drink your beer while I feign sympathy and heckle you to death. :rofl3::no:rofl3:

I don't know all the technical mumbo jumbo - it is some plastic thingy that pops up a few millimeters...optical eye something maybe???
