another thanks, and welcome to ScubaBoard.

the dates at toc are still open for when i can go. i was also looking in to cda in florida since it is a 16 week program and i can get started sooner. any info on both would be great.

YOU ARE NOT OLD. I HAD IT ALL AGAINST ME.. WOMAN AND IN MY 30'S WHEN I MADE THE JUMP FROM TECH DIVING AND TEACHING TO COMMERCIAL. MANY PEOPLE HERE DON'T SEEM TOO INTERESTED IN WHAT I SHARE ABOUT COMMERCIAL DIVING; BUT FOR YOUR BENEFIT LOOK AT IT THIS WAY THEN: IF A WOMAN IN HER LATE 30'S CAN DO IT, DO YOU THINK YOU'RE TOO OLD?
also, don't waste your money on big buck schools. La's school is great, they'll weed people out and not pass everyone just cos they paid 16.000
And... offshore is now makind very decent money, even tenders. The days of $10 are gone.
Inland you also do not go through the tender phase so much so if you're interested in getting into it because you feel you started later, go inland. My company loves military guys and pays them better than most.

i was really wanting to getin to La's school but it is completely booked until next april. so it looks like i'm going to have to come out of the pocket. most likely i'm going to go to TOC or CDA. it will probably end up being CDA since it is only a 16 week course and i can get to work that much sooner. i thank all of you for the informantion and the support. i was worried about the age but i guess many companys look at as maturity. so what is the company you work for that loves the military guys.

I know nothing about commerical diving but a thing or two about government contracts. Divekyra's experience may be atypical because she is a woman and it looks good for companies to have women and minorities on their staff when applying for government contracts. So she may be the exception not the rule.

I would recommend when you select your short list of schools ask them for their placement record for the last few years. Also see if it is possible to contact some of their recent grads for their experience. They will give you the most accurate description of the school.

The comany I work with is Underwater Construction Corporation. They have NO government contracts. My company makes no bones about weeding out those who can't do a good job, regardless of race, age or gender. If you are not safe to work with you will not work.
I may have gotten hired because the company needed a woman, I will never know, but I certainly kept the job because I did a GOOD job. I graduated the top of my class with %100 on the final and %100 on the weld test (this was not a written test). Any training the company paid for I always did among the top three.
Again, NAVYGUY, age has little to do with it if you know what you want and you know you can do it.

Does anyone know any information about the Commerical Diving Academy in Jacksonville, FL?
