Not just expensive, if I remember it also was a PITA to assemble, a bunch of tiny screws to put the adjustment ring on.

Mine is long gone, but I still use the 12-50 on hikes.

Ditto. I sold the fancy port, kept the 12-50 for general land use.

Currently I'm just using the 12-50 in the Macro Port 65 with a printed zoom gear. The special port and gear is at my house for when I get back.
I've wondered if that lens in macro mode would perform decently behind a diopter. It works okay in regular telephoto mode with a diopter although it does hunt a bit and the focal distance is still on the long side.
