Turtle Rock this morning.
We set off early and have the site all to ourselves(x2). The ebb current was mild and the vis was good. However, I did not treat my mask diligently so have to flood it regularly to clear it!! I am glad I am not a rebreather diver.
A single great barracuda but she never came close to us. I called the dive because of feeling cold, 40mins dive time with 100 bars left.

Tomorrow is scheduled for Kilimar drift, hope the ebb current is strong.

Kilimar drift to the Canyons
Unfortunately the current did not show up so it was more or less a Kilimar swim to The Canyons.
Vis was excellent and the dive was ver very easy.

Not able to dive Fish Bowl unless in the afternoon because of the timing for the flood tide. But there won't be any dive guide available to lead a 40m dive in the afternoon. Reversed profile is still NOT acceptable.

Atoll to Shark cave
Unfortunately the ebb tides turned up this morning so the dive plan changed when we hit the bottom at 32m. Kicked against the current for few mins and then decided to drift with it but maintained around 25m deep. It eventually subsided sufficiently so we could really enjoy the underwater scene. Two turtles and several nudi.
Last dive of the trip.
Back in Mar 2026.

That's unfortunate, I'm sure we all enjoy your reports! I'll be there in Feb around same time as this year (around CNY)
Lunar New Year to be precise. In HK we call it Spring Festival (traditional term). I have never came across the misleading term of CNY locally and even in conme china or ROC(Republic of China or Taiwan). The term has political implications outside conme china more than anything else.
KNY(Korean) is also correct as well!!

How about we just lump it all together and call it New Year 2.0 hahaha. Just kidding of course. When I was there we had guests from Mainland China. Here in Canada we call it both interchangeably, especially in business advertisements, though we are starting to see less and less CNY and more LNY signage (except from certain chinese owned businesses). Funny, even the HK guests called it CNY as well, but that's likely cause no use bringing up politics on a dive trip in a foreign country. It's like the "Merry Christmas" and "Happy Holidays" terminology... I don't care one way or the other, I just appreciate someone going out of their way to wish me well.

I appreciate the clarification though!

CNY is the term expressed in English for foreigner only.
You won't see it written in Han Chinese.
Plenty of ethnic Han Chinese had moved aboard long before modern Chnia was established in 1911. To them and their off springs, CNY has no meaning whatsoever.
I was travelling in Thailand last month and stayed in a hotel run by Thai Chinese and they still celebrating traditional Han Chinese Festival.
In many Han Chinese households you will see one calendar coporated two different systems. The Gregorian for date and Han Chinese for traditional festival, seasons etc etc.

Hi centrals, for first time visit to PG, which divesites are must-see I should ask my diveshop to take me to? Thanks.

Canyons.
Kilimar Steps(especially in winter when the water is cold) for thresher shark in the morning.
Verde Island if you have others to share the high cost.
Kilimar drift if the ebb tide us strong(only for experienced diver).
Horse Head(36m) and Fish Bowl(40+). Most operators would not take you there because of the depth.

Discuss with your operator for advice on sites.

All of these are great dive sites, of course, some really are only for experienced divers.
