He there folks,
Does anyone here know the winding knob screw to order for a Dive Rite classic red reel? (Broken white screw in the picture)

I tried measuring:
1/4 inch diameter and 5/8 inch length of shaft
The thread length is 1/4 inch
3/8 inch head diameter 1/4 inch head length
I did not measure the thread pitch.

Any help?

A good local hardware store should have one, and you can test the fit. Should be pretty common and easy to find.

Here's an option from McMaster in 316 stainless. McMaster requires an account with a business EIN to order. McMaster-Carr This is based on your measurements, I have not confirmed this will actually fit beyond that. Are you sure it's only 5/8" long when not broken?

I do not think a standard socket head cap screw will work, you need a shoulder screw otherwise the screw will clamp the knob. The shoulder screw I linked to above has about 1/8" too much thread; it would probably work but grinding off 1/8 would be better.

Threads are 1/4-20 , the bore on the knob is .270" diameter and .290" long.

Is that the locking screw

Where should I post this?

Your post is fine right here in the DIY forum as you are wanting to make a DIY repair of your reel.

But, there is a gear forum for accessories such as reels:

and there is a forum specifically for Dive Rite:

My suggestion is to give Dive Rite a call, they have excellent customer service and can best advise on the size screw/bolt you need.

The other option would be take your reel to a hardware store like a True Value or Ace Hardware...one with a selection of Hillman hardware drawers. Then find a bolt that will fit. My assumption if the diameter of the plastic bolt you have is 1/4-inch is that the threading is 1/4-20...that is a pretty standard size and readily available. My bet is the bolt is plastic so it will break before the hole in body of the reel does....if you don't have a hardware store with a good Hillman selection, then go to home depot and find the correct fit in a metal bolt and let me know....we have a store nearby my house that has an excellent Hillman selection and with the correct threading and bolt length, I am pretty sure I can find you a nylon bolt to mail out to you rather inexpensively.
