What is Passivation of Stainless Steel?

Passivation - Stainless Steel PartsPassivation is a widely-used metal finishing process to prevent corrosion. In stainless steel, the passivation process uses nitric acid or citric acid to remove free iron from the surface. The stainless steel passivation treatment leads to a protective oxide layer, or passivation film, that is less likely to chemically react with air and cause corrosion. stainless steel passivation resists rust.

Gonna have to re-watch it. I’ve been re-reading the original Fleming books these past few weeks and will have to move on to the movies soon.
