My next rip to Indonesia(Bali) is in June 2026. So I have plenty of time to see how this mess to be resolved one way or another.Reminds me of the protests that were going on when I went to Thailand on a dive trip in 2009. The trip was fine, just had to stay away from certain areas and I recall watching the PM declare a state of emergency as I was in the airport about to fly home.
Hopefully the Indonesian government sorts themselves out soon. The situation there is a bit more complex though, since you've got this nationwide stuff and then there's also the long-standing issues in West Papua which are go back decades and are their own thing. If the latter flares up it could be really disruptive to travel through Sorong, which would be a big deal for divers.
The information on the Smart Traveller page for Indonesia is not very good, seems to be very simplified. In any case, the places that divers go are very very unlikely to have any sort of protest.
Recently back from Komodo via Bali: zero issues and zero sign of issues - don't believe everything on the news
Really?Recently back from Komodo via Bali: zero issues and zero sign of issues - don't believe everything on the news
Depends on what you consider as recently.Really?
There had been no riots in Indonesia recently, someone is making up the stories. Not a single person was killed, all fake news.
Bali and Komodo occupies a small minute fraction of the country.
