Need a new dive light suggestion

During my last dive trip to Cozumel, my guide was using an “8 yr old light” with no markings that was able to penetrate MUCH farther than my orcatorch that I thought was supposed to quite powerful. It is not the most recent model that has an adjustable beam but it was a 700 series adjustable beam version. It dials down to approximately a 10 degree beam if i recall correctly. It was not even close to reaching the distance he had. He said it was an old scubapro light. It wasn’t large, probably even smaller than my orcatorch. I want something with a smaller beam that will reach farther to help spot things. I’ve been researching and it seems tough to find a forum or reviews that mention what i am looking for. I’ve kind of been steered towards both the Sherwood st2800 and the dive rite CX3 based on divers recommendations but I haven’t personally seen them in action. In fact it seems hard to find many reviews even on you tube. If anyone could please offer me some real life experience or thoughts to lead me towards my next light purchase, please let me know! Thank you

I have a Diverite CX3 and BX2, and Orcatorch DC710 and D570GL.

The BX2, DC710 and D570 are all similar in brightness and spread (ignoring the DC710's gimmicky turbo mode, that requires a button to be held down). The CX3 is a bit brighter, but not hugely so.

Of these, I would recommend the CX3 for two reasons: Diverite torches are extremely robust, and it has external, waterproof charging. I find what kills torches in the long run is having to take the battery out to charge/expose a charging port: one day the O rings will fail to seal when reassembled. I have quite a collection of dead torches.

Thank you for that info. The Sherwood is rated a bit brighter but I can’t find much info on it other than that’s what my dive shop guy says he uses. They also sell it for what that’s worth. I do like the wireless charging feature.

The newest orca ZD710 mk2 I think they call it has a very tight beam and adjusts to a nice wide flood light type of beam,

That is the ZD against a more standard beam but don’t recall what.

I have about 3 orca lights. My latest being the slightly older 710 with adjustable beam. It wasn’t very usable with the beam adjusted down to very narrow. Losing faith in the orcas even though the newest one says it’s much improved.

This is the newest orca adjustable at tightest setting and the other is a cx3, don’t get carried away with maximum brightness it’s rarely necessary and runs down the battery quickly, nice when you need it though

So the tighter beam on the left is the cx3 just to confirm? That’s what I’m looking for I think.
