I'm a Fish!
Silentexplorers.com is currently holding a fabulous sale on Poseidon regulators and some other brands, both new and vintage; so too, on tanks and other items.

Look for the "Smoking Hot Deals" on their homepage with the image of Bob Marley sporting a spliff. They are a great company, whom I have dealt with for years, out of Minnesota. They also carry tools, parts kits, no questions asked, and service everything that they sell. They also ship internationally.

Like so many other dive shops, they are facing financial challenges from all sides:

"In 40 years of retail in the dive industry, I have seen the last year as the worst I've gone through. These specials are our attempt at staying afloat. We hope that you will find something special for your diving locker."

Discounts ranged from 40-48 percent -- and my niece just scored a full water-ready set of Cyklon X gear -- two second stages, one metal; an XStream first stage, along with a CIrrus pressure gauge and even a poncey Poseidon regulator bag, for US 799.00 -- whose current list price is around 1450.00 . . .

Thanks for the insight @Bigbella. Out of curiosity, I took advantage and picked up a Cyklon X Metal. I figure if I don't enjoy the Cyklon, I at least have the MK3 and can change the IP for whatever second stage I want to pair. I can't find how to adjust IP in any of their manuals, however. Does anyone have any insight there? I assume the Cyklon metal will be too mouth heavy for me, but if I enjoy it, I can get a regular plastic Cyklon and turn the metal into the short hose reg on single tank rig. Just thinking ahead of how I could potentially mix and match. Worst case, if I don't enjoy it, someone on SB will get a smoking deal haha.

I am glad that you found something to your liking.

I have always favored the metal Cyklon models (what I had had through most of my diving) -- and have never found them to be too heavy, considering the girth of other second stages on the market, some even bordering on softball size. You also cannot beat the omnidirectional design of Poseidon second stages — no upside down issues and side-exhaust had always a game changer for me.

In answer to your question, the IP is adjusted on the top of that MK3 first stage, under that silly "Calibrated" sticker (lose it), with the use of an Allen key. For the Cyklon X, it is currently set at 11.5 bar (167 psi).

For the Cyklon, the only downstream regulator in the Poseidon product line, and their oldest, IP is set on an otherwise "empty" tank; that is, at about 20 bar (290 psi). All other models are adjusted on full tanks, at 200-300 bar (2900-4351 psi) . . .

Thanks for clarifying! Simple enough. I am looking forward to trying it out.

One more thought. Unlike most diaphragms, the IP should be adjusted unpressurized, to reduce the pressure of the spring plate on that magical rolling Kevlar diaphragm. At least that's the book answer for Poseidon. The Kevlar diaphragm's useful life is determined by how chafed the strands are in the center where the pin sandwiches the diaphragm against the spring plate. Every little bit helps, though it does increase the time required for tuning to 2 minutes instead of 30 seconds.

Is there somewhere I can go to find out more about these Poseidon regs?
I'm interested in the history and I'm wanting to get into these regs.
I know they're ultra high quality and parts are not that hard to obtain for the end user. I know Swedish stuff is always engineered very well and the materials are the best in the world.
I'm intrigued by the metal one. Is the Cyklon X 5000 the current replacement for the old Cyklon 300?
Maybe I'm trying to relate this to all my Scubapro stuff somehow, which I understand pretty well.
Is there a resource somewhere that explains all the different models, the differences, standard or non standard hose connections? I need to cut through all the mystery to understand the brand so I can make an informed decision.
Even better would be someone locally to me that's into poseidon that I could look at, discuss, and maybe try some different stuff. I'm in the Northbay, Santa Rosa, (SF Bay Area).

It sounds like you're in good hands with Rob, who knows all things Poseidon.

Briefly, the Cyklon X is the oldest second stage in the product line, attached to an Xstream first stage. their most modern; and the Cyklon 5000, an earlier model, which as been around for decades, is still produced, currently attached to a 3950 / 3960 first stage (see photo below, left).

The previous Cyklon 300 had been notorious for its odd, non-standard 1/8" hoses, with what was once called "British Railroad Thread" for the first stage, with its flat end meant for sealing against nylon gaskets. Modern adaptors are still sold for that long-discontinued model.

Hoses are now standardized, have been for some years -- except for, maybe, the Cyklon; but regulator end adaptors are readily available for use with any standard LP hose.

Poseidon parts and service kits, unlike Scubapro, have been on the open market for several years . . .

Thanks for the insight here! Much appreciated.

OK so the Cyklon X is the current metal second stage and the 5000 is the first stage 👍
I can see I got a lot to learn about this brand.
The other one that's mind boggling to me with how many models of 1st's and 2nd's is Scubapro.
Poseidon doesn't seem as bad.
