My wife and I spent 2 weeks at Guanaja and 2 weeks at Roatan.
Guanaja we stayed at Hotel Guanaja South side of Island toward E end, nice big rooms with a bar, beach, and a dive shop, I only did 2 tanks with the dive shop George the Dive Master had medical issues, so I ended up Diving with Peter Watersports, Peter was great guy to dive with, the reef terrain or topography whatever you'd like to call it, was stunning, seen several Morey Eels some Sting Rays, seen a lot of different fish, shot some Lion Fish, the cook fixed them for dinner and breakfast. Seen 2 other dive boats at a distance 1 was Dunbar Rock the other may have been Clark's Caye. Ate some good food at the Manatee Bar with the local expats and went to Mimi's for Dirty Chicken one eve, both places very good. A very slow paced kick back and enjoy island time place.
Roatan was a shock after Guanaja, we stayed at brisas deal mar, for my taste it was just the right sized resort good pool, bar, beach and Island Diving Center was 6 steps from my front door and 15 steps from the back door of our room. Excellent Boat, good Dive Masters or Instructors. I seen more tourist under water on first 2 dives than I did for 2 weeks at Guanaja. Reef again terrain was stunning fish were plentiful very enjoyable. We went fishing with Ruthless Roatan Jerom and Ed were our deckhands we caught 3 nice Wahoo and 3 Tuna. We took enough fish back to brisas del mar, the chefs cooked the Wahoo and made sashimi with the tuna & we fed 24 Canadian and Missourian friends that we had met on the dive boat and the bar, a great night. It was my wife's world for once I warned her about the biting bugs, but they barely bothered her and tried to eat me alive. Also from personal experience it's no fun to be stung by Lion Fish, similar feeling to smashing your thumb with ball peen hammer, OUCH!!!

Thanks for the report! Guanaja is the only one of the three "big islands" that we've never visited - really hoping to get there some day. Did you go on the ferry from Roatan? If so, how was the ride?

That’s an an advantage of staying on Dunbar Rock rather than “mainland” Guanaja, avoids the bugs. (We had some beach time on the main island, yikes.) I think its why so much of the population lives on Bonacca. Not sure about Clark’s Cay since it actually has beach and outdoors that isn’t building.

Grahams place and Clarks Caye both have bugs sand and mangrove's is all it takes

How would you compare the diving on Guanaja and the diving in Roatan? Was Beto your divemaster at Island Diving at Brisas del Mar? thanks for any more info!

Whatever happened to the old Bayman Bay Club on Guanaja?

I'd say Guanaja just a bit better, Black Rock (the one on Guanaja) I could've dove there 6 or 8 tanks and not got tired of it, Guanaja is worth diving there for a week or more, if you need nightlife it's not the place if you like. peace and quiet it is awesome.
Beto about 1/2 the time the other 1/2 between Dani, Erin, & Gim
