Hello divers,

So i reservated a homestay (airbnb) in south misool, i attached a picture of their infoboard and more or less where it is located on Misool. I hear and read people say there is only 1 Resort on Misool but i see those homestays and i think i dont understand the Misool thing.

Can somebody enlighten me?
I would love to dive it but could settle for a cheap option from land.

LOB is pretty expensive and i have 5 weeks and like to keep it within budget.

Any info on homestays, logistics and must see diversites on Misool?. Thank you in advance!!
(Dugong!!! I have never seen.... Are they around somewhere in Raja this feb?).

In the past there was a surge of fake accounts in airbnb/booking.com etc claiming to represent local families' homestays in those platforms.

I'm not sure you are aware of what homestay is. Most of them don't even have doors and/or windows and owners barely speak any english (quite often), so I highly doubt they meet the minimum required standards to be in sites like airbnb.

Have a look in this link:

Stayrajaampat.com don't offer anything for misool itself, but I think that this link has the best and most up to date info about homestays in the said area you can find online.

Good luck

Misool Eco Resort (Misool) is a beautiful dive resort located on Batbitim Island. Batbitim island is about 65km from the actual island of Misool in Raja Ampat.

I have been to Misool Eco Resort a couple of times. The diving there is incredible. There are many descriptions of the environment and wonderful resort on the Web. The resort established a marine reserve in 2005. It has grown to encompass 300,000 acres and includes three ranger stations. The growth in marine biodiversity within the reserve is estimated at 250% since its inception.

There are many liveaboards that call on dive sites near Misool Eco Resort.

I have not been to the actual island of Misool. A quick search did not return any dive operators on Misool island itself.

There are homestays in the small island near the big Misool. I have been in homestays al over the world via Airbnb. You know what... thats even what they started with. Some are very basic, others more luxury.

Speaking English is not a requirement.

Dear David,

Thank you for you reply. I see indeed the main Island "Misool" is less famous as the "Misool"resort..... (Which is not on Misool).

I can imagine its a beautiful resort! It looks amazing!

But for me, way over budget, since ill be around for a while. But thank you for the helpful information! M

I know there are several homestays in the area (listed in the link I gave you above).

I've also used airbnb quite a lot through the years, but that's irrelevant to the discussion.

English is not a requirement to enjoy your stay indeed (that's again irrelevant to the discussion) , but how do you expect people who don't speak English and live in so remote areas, with very minimum means to handle listings/bookings via airbnb (with their hefty charges etc)??

All I am trying to say is that I wouldn't rely on sites like airbnb to book anything in the SPECIFIC area.

Go ahead and do as you like. But please come back after your trip to report your experience.

All the best

You got me interested to know if there is dugong in Raja Ampat (RA). I’ve been diving in RA 10 times since 2010, but have never seen dugong there. My 11th time will be next week on White Manta.

Recently I saw dugong in Alor. See my trip video, below.

I caught RA bug when I went to Misool for the first time in February 2010 on KM Temukira, one of budget liveaboards operated by Grand Komodo. Weka was the cruise director.

Weka was one of the pioneers in exploring for dive sites in RA. There is a dive site named after him, Weka’s Wow in Kawe, North RA, Raja Ampat diver death. I plan to dive there in February 2026.

You may want to ask Grand Komodo directly if they have seen dugong in RA.

Grand Komodo has also a dive resort, called Raja Ampat Dive Lodge (RADL), Raja Ampat Dive Lodge - The Most Diverse Reefs in The World. I went back to RA for the 2nd time in November 2010, stayed in RADL.

So, if you are on spending budget for your 5 week stay in RA, you may want to check out RADL. Grand Komodo also offer combo trip on one of their liveaboards followed by staying in RADL (or vice versa).

However, RADL is not in Misool. It is on Mansuar island, 1.5 hour speed boat ride from Sorong, 3 times shorter speed boat ride than going to Misool Eco Resort (MER). The last time I was in MER was in April 2013. it took 4.5 hour speedboat ride from Sorong.

Stepfen, i think you and i keep on misunderstanding eachother.....
I assume you mean well so thank you for that!

Has anyone stayed with Lalelka in Misool? They seem to be the only not very expensive option to dive in the area?
