When did the octopus (alternate 2d stage) terminology change to third (3d) stage and why?
When did the K valve become yoke valve and why?

I have never heard this. It’s an alternate second, or an octo. When did the octopus (alternate 2d stage) terminology change to third (3d) stage and why?
NASDS used to call it "safe second" but never heard what the OP said.I have never heard this. It’s an alternate second, or an octo.
From “The Chairman” December 27, 2002: “I use DIN... and a DIN is not a K valve with different threads. The names K and J came from a Scubapro catalog long before I started diving. They numbered all of the items on their pages, A, B etc. Well the "reserve" valve was labeled "J" and the basic valve was labeled "K". That's it. DIN came later from Germany as their engineers can't seem to leave well enough alone.”Say whaaa?
A "K valve" can be "Yoke/International" or a DIN Valve.
It all becomes easier to understand when you realize it doesn’t matter when or why. From “The Chairman” December 27, 2002: “I use DIN... and a DIN is not a K valve with different threads. Really confusing and it seems the tank valves are DIN and K but a “Yoke” adapter is necessary to use DIN 1st stage on K valve.
Words and definitions are important - I dislike all the verbiage changes occurring today in this country. It all becomes easier to understand when you realize it doesn’t matter when or why.
