Have you ever looked at yahoo.jp? Here's a current listing. I searched "Mares Abyss"

FWIW, leisurepro had rebranded itself as scuba.com. They do a lot of selling over Amazon so you can go that route. But they've given up on grey market stuff entirely so no longer have unusually low prices.
That's a lovely reg, I'm going to bid, I doubt it will stay at the current bid of oh 40 bucks.

Hey does anyone know how I can get a Mares SPG that was made in Germany? I have one and it actually says "Made in Germany" in english right on the face but I haven't always seen that on other Mares SPGs. I have had it for a long time and always kept the rubber boot on it and been careful not to let it swing around or impact against anything. It's still accurate and sensitive but after using it for so long I have been thinking about the end of its lifespan.

In fact, it doesn't have to be Mares, just Made in Germany, simple SPG metric.

The light makes it seem like it's too scratched up to read but it's not hard to read at all in front of me.

Let's throttle back on the thread drift please.

You might want to repost this in Computers, Gauges, Watches & Analyzers

I'd ask about German SPGs in general. I'm sure Mares just stuck their name on it rather than actually making it. It's odd considering most SPGs are made by one company in Italy. Maybe they were on strike that month.

Hi all,

buddy of mine runes a twinset of Mares Abyss Classic labeled first stages. They're due for service, but I can't seem to find a manual for that exact model. I have instructions for the 22x in German (which comes in handy being German). Are they internally built the same and can be serviced using the same kits?

Thanks.
Tom

I recently serviced the same model. At least here in the us, the service kit does not yet include the 2022 version of the poppet. That has to be ordered separately. In my experience with our fleet of instructional Mares regs, the earlier versions of the component with the white plastic seal do not work as well as the 2022 version with the translucent seal. So, we have been replacing the earlier versions in the kit with the 2022 version.

Not sure what you are refering to by "Classic". The following site should provide what you need to service it:

If you don't think you can find a service manual to match, please post a picture of the 1st stages you will be working on so we can identify and provide further assistance.

I am wondering if that is US distributor issue. Here is a dutch site selling the current kit for the MR22X (part # 46201827) that is listed in Mares TB42. The depiction of the kit shows the updated 30N 2k22 version of the poppet with its translucent sealing surface:

I'm not surprised the US service kits don't match the rest of the world. The Navy II is the only version of the 22 that Mares had sold in the USA for the last decade or so. The Navy II poppets have generally lagged behind the poppets used in the first stages with the X suffix due to Mares needing to keep the it in compliance with military contracts or specs.

I've got some more recent info that I need to add to the page linked by Zef. I'll try to get to it tomorrow.
