Miketsp's signature reads "Imagine how much deeper the ocean would be without sponges."

my thinking (?) has led me to conclude that the ocean would
in fact be SHALLOWER if you took all the sponges out. all
that mass being taken out would in fact cause the water to
take its place, thus the ocean level in fact would drop, thus
making the ocean a shallower place.

n'est pa?

This guy.

The precise quote is: "Sponges grow in the ocean. That just kills me. I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be if that didn't happen..."

Funny bit. Tired, but funny.

i didn't realize the quote came from Steven Wright, he's awesome.

Just wondering, if you took all the sponges out of the ocean... where would you put them?

hehehe... that one i know

also, makes me wonder... why sponge baths? aren't they clean to begin with being
always under water?

Now if we replaced the sponges with lawyers.......

Nah, that would remain the same..

I only just saw this thread.
It's such a stupid line but some people PMed me to tell me they giggle every time they see the phrase.
Because of course it's such a natural thing above water for sponges to soak up water that it really brings home the change in rules.
I don't know who originally wrote it because it's on dozens of sites.

Andy,

I suspect it wouldn't change at all.

Come on down to Tarpon Springs for some research. The Greeks have been harvesting sponges there for over a hundred years and still the water is just the same level as everywhere else on the gulf coast.
