Dear friends of Jack Chalk:

As you may know, Jack left Bonaire in August for advanced medical care in Tennessee where has been with his dear and long time friend and fiance Jenny Choate and his son Chris,  who is Assistant Fire Chief there.  His health had been improving but recently he had a serious setback and was hospitalized in critical condition.

Sadly Jack has died.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Reed's Chapel, 302 church St.
Lexington, Tennessee Ph. 731 968-3643  Services are being planned for this weekend.

Jack was General Manager of Captain Don's Habitat in Bonaire and a major force in the hotel industry and environmental management of Bonaire. He served as President of the island's environmental agency STINAPA and Adviser to the Bonaire Marine Park as well as on dozens of community and government committees.
When some issue or some cause needed guidance or help on Bonaire, people said 'call Jack".

He befriended divers and environmentalists the world over encouraging them to admire and protect the world's coral reefs.  Besides Jenny and Chris,  Jack leaves a dedicated and heart broken staff at Habitat, his diving industry friends and colleagues and motorcycles buddies the world over and the Wetsuits, his beloved band for which he was lead drummer.

Beyond Bonaire Jack was the founding Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Philippe Cousteau Foundation and Earthecho International.  A Boston Sea Rover, he was a dedicated supporter of their Marine Careers education program.
At Harvard University he was commended for his work with their Sustainability and Environmental Management program where he was a guest lecturer and adviser to students working on ocean issues.  Jack was a recipient of the ACCOLADE Award and the BONHATA Award in Bonaire for his leadership there and of the Ruth D. Turner Award for his  decades of halcyon work to promote strong ocean stewardship.

Jenny and Jack had put everything towards his health care and need our assistance. We are asking that you help out to the best of your ability by sending checks made to:

Jenny Choate, PO Box 1424, Lexington, Tennessee  38351

or by donating via his son Chris' Paypal account at lexfire212@yahoo.com

Please forward this email to anyone whom you know that knew and loved Jack.

Sincerely,
Philippe Cousteau
&
George Buckley
