A bit OT as it's a snorkel death, but the discussion of PE/ROPE is interesting.

" 'Hypoxia induced by Rapid Onset Pulmonary Edema (ROPE) is the cause of some, probably most, snorkel related fatal and near fatal drownings,' the study’s authors wrote in their interim report, which is cited in Johnson’s lawsuit."

A thread for this incident has already been posted.

Anyone can sue. Winning is an entirely different matter.

Snorkeling isn't very dangerous but people do die while doing it. I'm sure those folks knew that. But what burns me up is how so many people look around for someone with deep pockets to blame when things go wrong in their lives.
People like this woman who is suing are responsible for crap like the warning stickers on a motorcycle gas tank warning you motorcycle riding is dangerous. Or those yellow warning stickers on the backside of your car's sunvisor. It's ridiculous society has been conditioned to believe nothing is ever their fault if someone gets hurt or dies. Hawii should file a countersuit for legal fees.

Or “caution hot” on hot coffee. Frivolous lawsuits are all too common, anymore. Personal responsibility, however, is not.

The world is currently designed for the lowest common denominator.

Anyone else remember the movie, "Idiocracy"? I highly, highly recommend it.

And then it came true?...
