Without crossing over to Cozumel, your cheapest shot at a nice snorkeling trip is in Puerto Morelos. Plenty of folks offer tours at the pier, or you can check in with one of the scuba shops a bit further down the beach (the folks at Wet Set are friendly to non-divers, but you'll probably do okay with any of them). There are even shallow parts of the reef that can reach swimming for $0, depending on how they have the simmer/boat limits set up.

Akumal can also be nice, but it is more expensive and crowded, and I don't like how they set it up the last two years with the "corral" area off the beach. Still a lovely beach and the turtles are cool, the snorkeling may be worth it if you get on a boat.

The cenote mentioned in a post above is called Gran Cenote.

Heading to Riviera Maya (Mayan Palace) this spring. In the past we have dove cozumel but it’s a pain to get there. Taxi trip, ferry trip, another taxi just to get to the boat. This time we also have non divers that would like to snorkel while we dive. Is there an easier way ? Any recommendations on dive shops or areas ? Also possibly interested in Tulum. It’s been several years since we have done any diving so all tips welcome !!

Tulum is incredible! You must see the place. MUST.

If you can rent a car, also visit the ruins at Coba, about 30 minutes northwest of Tulum. The ruins are spread out and there's a lot of walking, so take walking shoes and mosquito repellent. You used to be able to climb the temple at Coba, one of the last temples that was accessible but I hear even that temple is now closed to ascents. Anyone know if this is true? The article below suggest that you can still climb the pyramid.

Tulum is a very overpriced tourist trap. It stopped being nice 10 years ago.

And I mean both ruins and town. The diving was never really good

Personally I would forget about Coz and dive the Yucatan the resort next to Mayan Palace has a dive shop More and bigger fish along the Yucatan my 2 cents Selling renting 3 units at Mayan Vidanta resort
