A commercial diver died Sunday near Paducha, Ky. in the Ohio River. He was not deep and had surface supplied air. The newspaper article was vague other than a few stats. Does anyone have anymore info.?????

Here is the only information I have seen on this incident so far.

My sympathy to his family and friends.

Diver dies after being trapped inside dam
REPAIRMAN PINNED BY WATER PRESSURE
ASSOCIATED PRESS

PADUCAH - A U.S. Army Corps of Engineers diver died Friday after being trapped inside a temporary dam while making repairs.

Gary Ramsey was caulking cracks near a water-intake valve at Dam 52 on the Ohio River, between the Irvin Cobb and Interstate 24 bridges. At 9:45 a.m. CDT, Ramsey communicated to his diving supervisor that he was in trouble, said Ron Hall, Dam 52 lockmaster.

Larry Ashford, lead senior wildlife and boating officer for the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources and the lead investigator into the fatality, said it appeared that an increase in water pressure inside the temporary dam either pinned Ramsey against the dam or trapped him inside a crack near a "bear trap," or water-flow structure, in the dam.

Corps workers flooded 8 feet of water inside the temporary dam, and Ramsey was pulled out after being trapped for about 50 minutes, Ashford said.

Ramsey was taken to Western Baptist Hospital, where he died about 8 p.m., McCracken County coroner Danny Sims said. An autopsy was performed at Madisonville Regional Medical Center Saturday, Sims said.

Ramsey, also a mechanic, had worked the past 10 years with the Corps' Louisville repair station. Ramsey was assigned to a Corps vessel that serves as a floating repair shop, repairing dams between Cairo, Ill., and Cincinnati.

It is allways bad to hear of a death wile diving.
