I'm a new diver (just got my open water cert at the end of last year) and am looking for a bc. I will be doing recreational diving in warm water (I live in SW FL). Maybe eventually getting the next cert for advanced open water. I'd like to do some wreck diving sometime and also have an underwater camera that I dive with. I'm looking to buy a BC in the $500 range. I think I have settled on the Zeagle Stiletto, but before pulling the trigger I wanted to get some outside opinion.

I was looking at the Zeagle Stiletto and Octo-Z setup. What is your opinion on that setup? What about accessories, if I go with the Stiletto do I need any other accessories besides the octo-z? Are things like weight pouches, lumbar support, neck guard, etc needed? What is the difference between the Stiletto & the Stiletto LTD?

Any other similar BC I should be considering?

That is what I have. I didn't buy any extras and it works great for me.

Do you, or do you think you will, have ANY interest in technical, cavern, or cave diving...?

Your in SW Florida - where there is allot of potential for that... If so - look at a BP/W....

If you're going to buy a conventional BC I think the Stiletto is a great choice (I have one) but you might also want to check out the Brigade at Scubatoys (Zeagle Brigade BCD reviews and discounts, Zeagle) it's basically a Ranger harness with an Escape bladder and about $100 less than the Stiletto. You've still got 35lbs of lift and a more versatile harness.

You may also want to consider a BP/W - I made the switch recently and wish I'd been diving with one since day one.

I made the same choice about 6 months ago to get a Z. Stiletto..... very nice BCD and it's a back inflate, great pockets and easy to wear.

The Oct Z I'm not sold on, I've got one on my Aqualung Pro QD and switch it between the QD and a Balance I also have.

I'm required to use the SeaQuest stuff for class and have never really liked the inflator/Octo Reg setup.

The regular alternate air source reg. is just so much easier to use. The extra hose is really no big deal.

So, yes the Stiletto is a great BCD. It to me it's easier to don and dof and the pockets are positioned nicely. I love the hose connector for wash out.

I would get the yellow weight pockets to go inside the BCD pockets.

I use an older Escape, which is similar to the current Stiletto. Also get the BX inflator, which allows easy flushing of the bladder with a garden hose post dive.

Before I changed over to a BP/W I was using a Stiletto. It was a great little BC, better than many of the jacket style BC's I'd used in the past. I would forgo all the options, they are not necessary, and even consider going slightly more minimalist with the Zeagle Scout. It's less money which means you can buy other gadgets too, and will get everything done that you need in a more streamlined fashion. :)

Zeagle customer service is second to none as well, can't go wrong w/ Zeagle.

The Stiletto LTD is a jazzed up version of the Stiletto.

Added features of the Stiletto LTD.

•Airloc buckles throughout the BC
•Articulated shoulder assembly will swivel to adjust the harness to the body’s contour
•Unique tuck-away mesh pouch on front of cummerbund
•Built-in lumbar padding
•Extra stainless steel D-rings on vest
•Shoulder harness webbing can be customized by the user to add D-rings
•Additional right hand pull dump valve/OPV
•Includes a pair of 12 lb capacity mesh weight pouches
•Accessories can be easily changed for different diving requirements using the zipper attachment system.

You can check both BCs out on the website....

Thanks!

Scott
