Im looking at purchasing gear. I am leaning toward the Zeagle Ranger for several reasons. They are:

1) I like the weight integrated and rear inflate design
2) Virtually bulletproof - should last
3) if there is an issue, their service seems second to none. Im willing to pay extra for that kind of reputation and service.
4) Local service - where I am continueing my training sells and services Zeagle

That being said - For local diving It seems that most New Jersey diving is with doubles. At 6"1" and 195lbs, will the ranger have enough lift (44lbs) for me with a 7m wetsuit? I had thought it might but someone today told me to look at the tech. The tech is larger and heavier. I like the Ranger's size since although large for a travel BC - it could still reasonably be used in warm water dives several times a year where the tech seems big to take to the carribean??

Does anyone else use the Ranger for doubles?

Thanks for the input.

To address the concerns you noted.

If you are going to dive doubles in NJ you will probably not need "weight intergration". Most likely you will not need any added weight at all.

Zeagle products are hardly "bulletproof".

Zeagle service is indeed second to none. But why not buy something that will not need service in the first place?

The shop you frequent sells Zeagle? OK. But if you decide to dive with a 'Hello Kitty" poodle jacket they should offer the same attention to your needs.

Yes, much of NJ diving is with doubles. (but not nearly all)

When diving in a wetsuit and doubles the question is not about "enough" lift. It is more about having "redundant" lift.

Lastly, if you are looking for gear that will allow you to easily switch between doubles in Jersey and the warm waters of Cozumel you just might be out of luck.

Each location requires the proper gear.

I have a Zeagle Ranger and I use it when I go on vacation. That being said, it is bulky and difficult to pack in a suitcase. It will have enough lift for you diving even with a 7 mm wetsuit. I wouldn't recommend the Zeagle Tech, its even larger and bulkier than the Ranger and you won't need the added lift.

I haven't used my Ranger for doubles but know of a few who have...no problems.

If you plan on diving doubles in the future, I would recommend a backplate/harness system. Good luck with your decision.

If you do intend to eventually dive doubles you should look at a backplate wing combo, if you are going to use it for travel go ali, get a single wing if you want something all round you'll want about 30# lift it's a little big for warm water diving, (I use an 18# wing for warm water diving) but will work just fine including when you get your drysuit which you will eventually want for NJ diving.

When you decide to go doubles just get a doubles wing. A backplate and harness system keeps everything close to your body and doesn't shift around.

If you like Zeagle then get their backplate/wing/harness system for diving double.

+1

While I do know a few guys that dive doubles on their Rangers - just go for the BP/W.

Agreed. If you want to do local single tank diving and occasionally dive double tanks, then the Ranger would be fine for you.

However, if you are looking at diving double tanks the majority of the time, I would certainly go the BP/W route.

Thanks,

Scott

Scott nailed it. I'd only add that as you continue, you will very likely get an aluminum BP/W setup anyway.....so you may want to try that as a first option.
