If you're thinking of doing doubles as your post below alludes to, get a backplate and wing setup.

Start with a backplate and wing or join the hundreds of folks that had to sell their soft BC because though it claimed that it could handle doubles, it couldn't.

It's cheaper to configure for your endgame, rather than approaching it step by step, throwing inadequate equipment away as you go.

The Ranger was one of the BC's I looked at when I was shopping for my BC. I rented one and was not impressed. I ended up buy at BC from a company called DiveTek. The Ranger just didn't seem to be holding up well. Granted it was rental gear but the shop told me it was less than a year old. My DiveTek has been bullet proof. It's very easy to reconfigure for whatever I want to do and it's about the same price.

I have a Ranger and love it. It's very comfortable and "Durable". I really like the integrated Ripcord weight system. I had only dived with a SeaQuest Pro QD Jacket before getting the Ranger and I much prefer the Ranger. For more info. do a search. There are numerous posts on the Zeagle Ranger and many Ranger users on the board here. Bottom line IMO, it's a good BC, whether it is right for you depends on your needs.

my boyfriend bought me a Ranger & I LOVE it. it has a lot of rings on it, the pockets are handy, & I like the integrated weight system. he also has a Ranger that he used with doubles a lot, but ended up buying a backplate & wings because he got tired of changing it back & forth. I tried an IDI backfloation BC that I also liked. try one out if you can...it's a matter of personal preferrence.

Another BCD you may want to take a look at is the GENESIS RECON. It comes with either a 45 or 75lbs wing. It is extremely well built and solid. As a matter of fact I have dove with it alongside divers WEARING the ZEAGLE RANGER/DIVE RITE brands and THEY were impressed with my BCD. It can carry up to 40lbs, 10lbs of that is non releaseable. You can also upgrade it in the future to carry twin tanks.
It is VERY comfortable to wear. You will hear MANY testimonials on the RANGER/DIVE RITE brands. I took the time to actually borrow some of these brands and can tell you honestly that the GENESIS brand felt more comfortable and SECURE than either of those other models. The integrated weights are EASY to install/remove.

But lastly IT IS YOU WHO WILL BE WEARING IT so only YOU CAN MAKE THE DECISION. JUST TAKE YOUR TIME and try some models out.

I do not own a Ranger but hear great things about it. It will probably be my next BC. I know people using other tech BCs from Zeagle and very happy with them.

While browzing the net, i found a very good price for the Zeagle at www.leisurepro.com. you might want to give it a look.

Good luck.

I have a Ranger and like it a lot. It's comfortable and well built. The only "problem" I have with it is that is really too much BC to travel with (via air). It takes up a lot of room in my suitcase and I really don't need 45 lbs of lift to dive a AL-80 and 8 lbs of weight. There are a lot of BP fans here and I have been looking into them as well but I have not been sold yet. I have looked into a BP and a 18 lb bladder but to "build" a BP up to the point it matches my Ranger cost about the same as the Ranger and 2 times what a small, inexpensive BC to use on trips would cost (my dive trips by air are to very easy dive locations, if not the Ranger would go). I don't intend to get into serious tech diving so I have no need for lots of lift or twin tank setups. There are also a couple of features on the Ranger that I like that as a rule don't come on BPs. Wheather the Ranger (or any other BC for that matter) is the right BC for you really depends on what type of diving you are going to do. General rec and light tech then the Ranger will do great, serious tech that's another matter and for shallow easy reef dives it may actually be more than you really need. Bottom line, get what YOU like and what meets YOUR diving needs.

I own the Ranger and find it very comfortable. The downside is the velcro waist. My advice is to get the Zeagle Tech, which is the same minus the velcro. Happy diving!!
