I just got back from a trip to Cozumel and used my new Zeagle Escape BC. I wanted to post a short review.

Pros:

Excellent fit. For most BCs, my height at 6'1" is a large, but my waist at 34" is a medium. Zeagle's sizing system is great - Scubatoys set me up with a large shoulder panel and a medium waist. Perfect fit, much better than any other BC I've worn.

Excellent bouyancy. I was able to maintain a horizontal, vertical, or inverted vertical position perfectly. On the surface, it did not push me forward at all. The key is to wear the BC low and to not overinflate. When just hanging out waiting for the boat to pick you up, you can inflate it all the way and lean back and ride it like a raft.

Great weight integration. I used 12 lbs (4 in each front pocket in the yellow thingies and 2 in each rear). I did a test weight dump and rethreading the system only took a few minutes. I recommend taking a close look at how it is threaded. It makes sense and is easy to rethread if you understand how it works. Dumping the rear weights is pretty easy by just reaching back and pulling on the velcro tab.

Good Pockets. They are reasonable size and tucked back and out of the way. I keep a 6' sausage, storm whistle, and folding snorkle in one pocket and a 6 C-cell light and folding knife in the other.

Good value. $335 at Scubatoys. Pretty good packability for travel and enough weight capacity and lift for recreational Pennsylvania diving, unless you are really big and need a lot of lead.

Also, with the two tank straps, there is no way you are going to lose a tank.

Cons:

Pockets. It is not easy to see into them when wearing the BC and they are not really large or easy to get into, so if you are the kind of person who like to keep a lot of stuff in your pockets and get stuff in and out of them all the time, this would be a con. If you're like me and use them to keep back-up and emergency stuff in, then they work well.

Pull dump. I wish they had a top/shoulder pull dump.

Overall, I highly recommend this BC.

Great review. I was thinking about getting an escape but I was a little worried that the pocket wouldn't be big enough to hold the DAN safety sausage (which is a little bigger than I thought it would be) ... but it seems to hold yours. Do you think it would be comfortable to mount a small bc knife or strobe on the shoulder straps?

You might want to try clipping it right on the BC

Instead of putting the safety sausage in the pocket, try adding a large D-ring to the lower tank band on the side of your choice and clip the sausage to that. This puts it out of the way and it will not dangle but is still very easy to get to. I use a snap that has a ring in it large enough to get my little finger into tho make controlling the snap easier. It is very easy to clip and unclip the sausage to to the Dring. I also carry my back up light there. A second Dring on the other side of the tank adds more space for a reel or spool. The rear Drings are so much easier to get to than the pockets, both for you and your buddy. (I used them on a Zeagle Ranger and now a Scout)

I like your idea of D rings on either side of the tank strap and wondered how they were attached and if it made it difficult to adjust the band when using different tanks? Any pictures?
thanks, Dan

Yeah, I think a small knife or strobe on the BC straps would work fine.

There are D-rings and grommets to hang stuff off. I personally don't like stuff hanging off, but rather tucked in pockets. You can always do the thing other people have recommended about mounting a D-ring off the back so that things are out of the way.

The sausage I carry is the big one from Scubatoys. 6' long, 6" wide, and it fits in the pocket just fine.

I keep them in place with large size weight keepers, plastic seems to work OK. I run the strap in the keeper, through the D-ring and back through the keeper, the D-ring sets on the keeper. It helps to open up the slots in the keepers a little with a file or knife. I almost never change size of tanks but since you adjust the strap in the cam buckle I would think the D-rings would not be changed much. I can drag out the camera tomorrow, it's late here.

Pull dump. I wish they had a top/shoulder pull dump.

Thanks for the review!! Glad to hear that, overall, you are happy with your choice!!!
You should have a Remote Exhaust (pull dump) on your left shoulder. Simply pull the corrugated hose and the valve will open to allow air to escape.

Dive safe,

Scott

I didn't think it had a pull dump inflator hose. I must've missed that. I am going to check that when I get home tonight. Thanks - great BC you've got. I am going to get a Zena for my wife before our next trip, and maybe an Octo+ for me.
