Can get both regs at or around the same price. Will be doing mainly Caribbean warm water diving. Thanks for you input.

Neither...

Why not consider an Apeks, they're great regs and an ATX50 is, in my opinion, pretty reasonably priced

Zeagle Envoy kicked butt in the latest round of testing by Rodales; it was one of the best breathers in any price range. I have an Envoy backup and love it.

mmcdds - you'll learn that Rodales isn't worth spit. What a crock.

The NEWEST example, and far from the only - Apeks went from underperforming to top of class in one year. Yet they made not a single change.

The only thing bogus about Rodale's is their subjective scores. All I look at is the machine tests. Zeagle kicked butt. And my personal experience, and that of my dive partner, is that the Zeagle Envoy is a top quality reg, especially for the money. I use a DS4 Apeks as my primary, and it's great too, but it was also significantly more expensive than the Envoy.

And since the original poster mentioned two regs only - Zeagle and Mares - the choice is easy.

Which would be well and good - but Rodales does their testing ABOVE water. And the usefulness of that would be???????

Underwater testing is a lot more important, but harder to do, with fewer test facilities and therefore more expensive. Therefore, Rodales just doesn't bother.

Again: Rodales = crap.

That's real intelligent! Because breathing simulator tests are conducted above water - and the regs being tested are often subjected to more stress than anything any of us could experience underwater - they're invalid? OK professor!

OK not true. Not all tests are conducted above water. But apparently it's good enough for Rodales, right???

Aqualung tests their regs in an underwater test chamber. I know Abyss does the same - in fact, they use the same test facility. But hey - If you want to use dry-land testing to make your purchasing decisions, please go ahead.
