Anyone own a Zeagle SS BP? LDS I teach with here is starting to carry their gear. Thinking of maybe switching over to get ahead of the game. Any pros/cons or just another ss bp?

I do not personally own one, but I have been diving with buddies who use the steel and aluminum plates from Zeagle. They are plates pretty much like any other plate, if you use them with a traditional air cell from another manufacturer you will not have any problems as the holes and slots can accomodate standard 11 inch centers. One advantage of the Zeagle plates is you can use them with the Zeagle wings that fit the soft BC's Zeagle sells, these are the wings with the clips around the edge of the aircell to attach to for example a Ranger BC. These aircells have no center material where the bolts from your STA or double tanks are. The Zeagle plates can also be retrofitted with a ripcord style weight integration system.

I have heard that some of the plates had sharp edges that you the purchaser needed to file down to prevent your webbing harness from wearing through quickly. I have also heard that some of the plates have had this taken care of at the factory, so look closely. This problem is certainly not unique to Zeagle, lots of other plate manufacturers suffer from the sharp edge problems.

To sum it up, if the price is right you will most likely be just as happy with a Zeagle plate as you would with any other plate that is the same general size and shape. If you want some of the special features like the ripcord integration or Zeagle aircell flexibility, then no other plate will be its equal.

I hope this helps,

I have been diving one for a year or so and have had no issues. The plate itself discolors a bit in salt water, but it didn't rust.

Zeagle also has Al as well a s SS You can getthem in a couple of colors as well if that is of interest. Natural or anodized black. They are good BP

I think we have taken care of the sharp edges problem. Any plate you buy now should have pretty smooth edges...

Thanks,
