I have a Zeagle 50D and while it has been great for the past year, it had about 5! O ring failures this past week. Any ideas what may be causing this? I went to my back ups and had no problems. I will be visiting my LDS soon. Just curious if anyone had similar problems. Thanx.

Hi Joe R.,

I have a 50D it hasn't had any problems but it only has about 60 dives on it. How old is yours and has it been serviced yearly. If you bought it within the last year there is the chance that where ever you had bought it from had left it sitting on the shelf for awhile. This can cause the orings to dry out. Even if you don't use your reg for a year it is still a good idea to get it serviced.

Let us know what the tech says.

And my tech 50s are older than yours... several years ago I had them serviced at a local shop and they gooped them up with silicone.... so I had them O2 serviced at 5thD and they are on my deco bottles now.

Were your regs serviced at anytime during the 5 years you had them? Be sure to have them O2 serviced when you do.

But I am still surprised that you had failures even if they weren't regularly service...

I am also surprised that Andrew didn't completely disassemble your 1st & 2nd stage u/w and rebuild them during your tech 1 class... all while maintaining perfect horzontal position and not moving up or down in the water column much less forward or backward.... and all within a few minutes :D

I've heard stories and seem him in action myself.

Joe - what type of Zeagle 50D do you have? Is it the older Zeagle Apeks tech 50D or is it the new Zeagle ZX 50D. I have both types and have never had o ring failure. Both regs are very similar in design

I too have a 50D, (the newer Zeagle model), and although it has over 200 trouble-free dives on it, it has never been serviced. You don't say which o ring. I can only assume it's the swivel cap on top. If it's been dinged HARD, against a cave roof or a wreck's structure for example, you may have damaged it internally and caused some misalignment. I strongly suggest you contact your LDS soon and explain things to them so they can help you.
