I am switching soon from a 60lb lift, back wing BCD (Oceanic Chute 3) to ss plate/wing. I am looking for a bladder that can do singles (steel 95's) but eventually work on doubles. I have read over and over about using too much wing, and getting air trapped, etc etc, but my confusion is this, I use a dry suit, and don't use the wing for buoancy, just my suit (except at the surface) so where does the air trapping come from in the wing everybody mentions if thiere supposed to be using the dry suit for buoancy. By the way, I've never had a problem with my 60 lb bladder on any dive, from al 80's with just a swim suit on, to steel 95's heavy undies and a dry suit.....

I use a dive rite rec wing with my double 85's. My dive buddy uses a dive rite classic with his 104's and 95's The reson they talk about the wing being full is with the larger tanks if you put enough air in your drysuit to be neutral. your suit will be over full and giving you bouyancy problems. You will need to use your wing.

With one that will work for both it is very hard to find. I use a dr venture wing when i dive singles.

Don't think about doubles yet. Get yourself a good singles wing in the 30-40 pound range. Diving one big enough for doubles with a single tank will result in the wing "tacoing" around the tank and the wing flopping around in general making it harder to dump and less streamlined.

You may decide (as most seem to do) to stop using your drysuit for buoyancy and use your wing. If so, you'll be glad to have an appropriately sized wing.

Doubles will bring a lot of new purchases, and who knows? You meay never decide to use doubles. I'm pretty sure I never will. Focus on what you need now rather than try and get something dual-purpose for a vague future goal. By the time you go doubles, there may be some really cool new wing you want anyway :D

You'll really enjoy a rig suited to singles. I'd take a good look at the DSS single tank rig. That wing is a thing of beauty, and the whole system has a lot of nice features others don't. The wing is barely wider than your tank and so streamlined.

Have fun looking! :D

I'd search for any of the several 'dry suit vs wing for buoyancy' threads. You will probably stop using the suit for buoyancy as many others have. Just a suggestion.

What Humuhumunukunukuapua'a said.

That's the great thing about the BP/W system. I just moved from singles to doubles, and all I had to buy for the buoyancy system was the larger wing. Then I just transfer the entire BP, harness all sized to go with lights and D rings and everything already set up perfectly. Lower cost, consistency in the kit, easy. So you get the right wing for the right system. I started with Oxycheq singles wing, and now have their doubles wing. Switching the BP from one tank set-up to the other takes all of about 3 mins.

For doubles, the BP/W is the easy part. It's the new regs and valves that'll get your pocketbook.
