I've spent some time over the last few days looking at some of the numerous threads concerning BP/Ws. From what I've read, I believe I'd like to try one out in the near future which leads me to a question. I have a couple of older backpacks, one being a plastic aqualung and the other being an older Dacor metal backpack with a plastic coating on it. Both of these backpacks utilize a single tank band that attaches to the backpack using four screws.

Are there any wings that might be compatible with these back packs. I fully understand the advantages of the back plates, but coming from a single income family, any savings are appreciated.

Thanks!

It's gonna depend on a few things:

1.How far apart the tank straps are where they bolt to the backpack. What kind of bladder slot spacing will you need to use the tank straps. Or in the case of a single tank bladder like the DSS, what size window hole will they fit they fit through.

2. Are the tanks straps an appropriate position on your back vertically that will allow you to mount a wing. In other words, if the tank straps are in the middle of your back, and a given wing has two sets of slots, upper and lower, will either set of slots position the wing appropiately on your back. It might be the case that if you use the upper set of slots, the wing would be too low, and if you use the lower set of slots the wing would be too high. A wing made like a Zeagle "Big Bertha" ( http://www.zeagle.com/index.php?submenu=HeavyDutyBC&src=gendocs&link=Backplate_options ) would give you lots of options for a DIY mounting system, but that wing is waaay too big for single tank diving.

edit: Maybe you could find a bladder that had started out on a standard BC and work from there.
