I'm a Fish!
OK guys, I know this may be a silly question...but I would like to ask it anyway. Is there a difference between a yellow or black octo hose in the water; or is it really just personal preference?

Please give me your two cents.

Cheers,
Jen

A yellow hose makes your Alternate Air Source more identifiable. In an out-of-air emergency, that would assist your buddy locate and retrieve the air source.

Obviously, your Alternate Air Source should already be brightly colored and correctly located on your person... so it should be readily identifiable anyway.

It makes a small difference...but in the event of emergencies a small difference could prove vital.

It is my no means essential though.

I'd say anything that can help an OOA diver locate your Alternate Air Source quicker is probably a good thing. I agree that the yellow hose is not essential, but how could it hurt? Especially if you are not diving with a buddy who is super familiar with your gear.

I think that Devon has it covered.
... with the propensity of octo's to be just about anywhere on (or off) divers  I think having a bright hose that leads to it is an advantage.

But if you have a backup reg that's on a bungee, there is no need for bright hose or regulator, as your donating the one in your mouth anyway

Only in the way it shows up in photos--air(or gazzz as some here would say) travels equally well around yellow or black pigmentation......

I like my yellow octo hose....only because it matches my yellow backplate straps and yellow hoses on my old double hose reg. :)

It is a little easier to see but otherwise there is no functional difference.

When you use a long hose primary and necklaced octo (for yourself), hose color probably doesn't matter.

Just curious, but; wouldn't a yellow hose kinda be camo'd and blend right in with the yellow BP straps and other hoses? :coffee:

Thanks for the input everyone. Knew it was a bit of an odd question, but wanted your opinions non-the-less.

Cheers :0
