I just received my new XTX200/XTX50 regulator, and wanted to give it a quick-check.

From this thread:

http://www.scubaboard.com/showthread.php?t=184216&highlight=rental+equipment+check

I remembered about sucking the regulator dry and making sure to get a good vacuum, which has worked fine on all the rental units I've used so far. Unfortunately, on my new regulators I get no vacuum at all. With the first stage closed off using either the plug or my finger, I can continue to suck air out of either second stage. I have to pull a bit to do so, but I never get to a point where there's a good vacuum. When I suck on the second stages I can hear air getting sucked in from the front of the regulator.

I bought from a shop not local to me - but recommended here on SB - so any hints as to whether this is a problem ... and how big ... would be appreciated. I will of course contact the shop, but would like to know what problems, if any, I'm up against before calling.

Thanks

Henrik

Its a problem if you like to have dry air check the diaphragm’s for pin holes and the that they are sitting flush to the can.

Never mind ... (slapping forehead). Complete brain fade on my part - I should know better than to look at new gear before my morning coffee.

The shop I purchased from had misunderstood how I wanted the hoses and 2nd stages set up and for some reason had attached a 3rd LP hose to the 1st stage?? The air I was sucking in was through this open 3rd LP hose ... Since the regulators are in front of me on the table, the air sound I heard was from the end of this open 3rd hose. DOH!

Well, that was fortunately an easy "fix".
