Does anybody have experience using a color-correcting filter meant to be used in blue tropical waters in greenish water? I'm diving off of Catalina in a few weeks and I'm not sure whether it is better to use the "blue water" filter I purchased (SRP CYD), or no filter.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

I can't speak for this exact combination or scenario, but I did try an orangish-hued filter in turquoise waters once and ended up with a yellow video.

Mantis shrimp avatar, user name "thumbsplitter" Nice :)

Used SRP UR Pro CY filter and seems to work for everything below 10 feet. Their GR filter is good too, and have used it also. Filter, IMHO is better than no filter for daytime and video light supplementation in daylight. Night dives with video lights don't need filters.

When you balance the color in software, you can fine tune what color is there, if you don't use a filter, the blue in the background looks washed out, even with good post production adjustment.

PS: Like that you have more dives than posts

Wow. Great Video! I love all of the horn sharks. The colors look pretty good with the CYD filter.

Thanks to everyone for the advice. I'll post some video when I get back if it is any good.

This was with a SRP URPro CY 55 mm glass filter (blue water) in SRP Naked Holder, GoPro 3Black, what I liked was the deep blue background even at 90 feet and better color overall.

Just a quick update: I used the (SRP CYD) filter for our dives in Catalina and the results were fantastic! I've included a sample video below. As it turns out, the water was much more blue than I was expecting... Not sure how it would work in truly green water. Thanks again for all of the help.
