Hi: I need suggestions on what to purchase
I am a newbie getting my "feet wet" and prefer reefs and a few easy wrecks at about 55-100ft and warm water! Am looking to obtain the AOW certification and dive nitrox. I want a computer easy to read under and out of the water, easy to programme and operate. I don't need to download. I am not a die hard diver just someone who likes the free floating feeling and the beautiful vistas! I am looking to spend < $300
Tanks!

Aeris Atmos 2 at LP is $289. They have the Cressi Archimede for $339. I've posted several reports on the Archimede on SB that you can search for.

Suunto Mosquito, if you shop online you will get it close to that price. Very simple and small. You can wear it like a watch (Note: Make sure you get the one with the red and white markings).

Make sure you get one that is Nitrox compatible. ie Aeris Atmos 2 is, Atmos 1 is not.

Call Larry at Scubatoys and order you a Tusa IQ700. It will work great and come close to your price range.

I agree with the Scubatoys recommendation, but I like the Aeris Atmos 2. It's nitrox capable, has user changable batteries, downloadable with an optional cable (if you later change your mind), and is only $289.00. I believe Larry also gives scubaboard members a discount, so be sure to mention it when you check out.

In addition to all that, I believe the best thing is that with scubatoys.com you get the manufacturers warranty.

Oceanic Versa Pro has same guts as Atmos 2 in a different layout. $279 at LP, probably same at Scubatoys.

You're getting some good recommendations on brands, so I'll give you some suggestions on features:
1. User replacable batteries - cheaper and much more convenient than sending it off or going to a dive store to replace them;
2. Size - not too small - easy to read is a big plus;
3. Nitrox compatible. Even if you aren't diving nitrox now, there's a good chance you will be from the sound of your post. You don't want to have to buy a different computer later.
4. Intuitive display. I've seen computers that I really need to study to get the info that I need. When you look at computers before yo buy, make sure the display is intuitive to YOU.

Your price is reasonable; you should be able to find a decent computer at that range. Good luck.

The Tusa IQ700 also has all of these same features, but I feel that it is easier to read at depth than the Atmos 2.

I got my Suunto Vyper (wrist mount) for $359. I think it's worth paying a little over $300 for a great computer. It's nitrox compatible.
