Will a wrist computer replace my console completely ?
I believe less hanging of me equals less drag and less to damage.

If you get a wirelessly integrated computer, you won't have anything but a transmitter on the HP port of your reg. Or you can get a non-integrated one and have just an SPG on the hose. That is the option I chose, and I like it a lot.

Each to his or her own but I am not a transmitter fan. They tend to have a pretty good failure rate or at least as a minimum...a high gripe rate on various boards from owners. But ifyou like them...fine.

Personally, Both my primary and back up are wrist mount computers. I prefer that particular style and it works well for me. Unfortunately...computers are not cheap and it can be a costly experiment....unless....you can find an lds that will rent you a console stye and a wrist style and let you experience first hand which you prefer.

It may take a little experimentation on your part....but you will be happier with the results than just chosing what someone else prefers.

Well I don't like the transmitters but I use a wrist computer along with a air integrated hose computer.

I like having my compass and Depth gauge right in front of me, so only my spg is clipped off - works for me and I'm happy - If the wireless units didn't cost so much I think they are a great idea (with a standard spg as backup still) but then again I just like gadgets and thats not always a good thing in this sport...

I just purchased a Dacor Darwin Air integrated hose computer. Since I'm new to diving, I did a lot of web research and came up with as much information as I could. I've made what little dives I've done on a Spyder. Since I'm not EAN certified this has worked out well. I actually like this old computer a lot. Very easy to use and critical information is displayed well enough. I labored over the decision to go hoseless since I enjoyed the wrist mounted design a lot. I read a lot of negative things like losing tank readings and getting attention of sharks in waters where you don't need it. I'm not sure how accurate all this information is but It was enough for me to go with a hose.

I have an Oceanic console and am thinking of moving my comp. to a wrist strap (they have a nice one for my VEO 200) so I purchased the strap and am toying with the idea of getting an analog depth guage for the console , would having a backup depth guage be a good idea in case the comp. quits ? (or just getting rid of the console, It's kinda clunky, the SPG. is on back side of depth + compass)

Thanks for the input. The links help also.
